Intel already has a battle to fight: Qualcomm and Microsoft announce laptops with ARM processors
It was an open secret: Microsoft and Qualcomm were preparing something together. And finally the news has come to light a few hours ago. Both manufacturers will work hand in hand to launch the first laptops equipped with ARM processors A new type of equipment that represents a new actor to take into account in the current panorama in which Intel was the protagonist.
The news broke at the Qualcomm Summit, an event in which the American company announced its collaboration with those from Redmond for this new project These are devices that seek to adapt better than the current ones to the demands of users who require more autonomy and power to be able to always be connected, even if they are not at home.
The news, as we say, was already expected, as Microsoft's plans to bring X86 applications closer to ARM processors were made public months ago. In fact, we have already seen some simulation (somewhat disappointing, although very premature, it must be said) with a Snapdragon 835 processor.
It is expected that Microsoft's traditional _partners_ such as Asus, HP, Huawei, Lenovo… bet on this type of equipment and start working on laptops in which Higher autonomy is promised, much higher than what we have today, thanks among other reasons to the management that promises to offer a version of Windows 10 prepared to work natively on ARM.A Windows 10 S that will allow you to jump to Windows 10 Pro as in the case of the Surface Laptop.
The aim is to create teams that make us forget about using the charger for almost a day. Will they succeed?
The first computers to reach the market will do so from HP and Asus, which will bet on integrating the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 Mobile PC. In the case of HP, the bet will have the name of ENVY X2, a team of which no details are known for now, neither _hardware_ nor relative to the price or the date of release to the market.
In the case of Asus, it will debut with the Asus NovaGo, a team that is known to together with the new optimized processor from Qualcomm will be accompanied by a 710 MHz Adreno 540 graphics and 802.11a/b/g/n connectivity, 2×2 802.11ac MU-MIMO, Wi-Fi Direct and a Qualcomm Snapdragon X16 Gigabit LTE modem that will make us have connectivity in everywhere as if it were a _smartphone_.
We will therefore have to be attentive to the beginning of 2018 and especially to the spring season, a time of the year that could be useful to see these teams come to life, who knows if they could arrive together with the great Windows update for that year, which we now know as Redstone 4.
