In the best style of “one more thing”, Microsoft has given an interesting presentation that not everyone expected: Microsoft Surface Book And yes, it had been rumored that there was a version of the Surface with a larger screen, but clearly no one expected it to be this.
Microsoft Surface Book Specifications
The Microsoft Surface Book has the following specifications:
- 13.5-inch screen at 267ppi (3000x2000 pixels)
- Intel Core i5 and i7 Skylake processors.
- Nvidia GeForce GPU with GDDR5 memory.
- 128, 256, 512GB, or 1TB internal storage.
- 8 or 12 GB RAM memory.
- 8-megapixel rear camera with autofocus and 1080p video recording.
- 5-megapixel front camera with 1080p video recording.
- Autonomy of up to 12 hours of video playback.
- Two USB 3.0 ports and slot for MIcroSD
- Thickness of 7.7 millimeters, and a weight of approximately 725 grams for the screen and 1.5 kilograms together with the keyboard.
Clearly we see that Microsoft has taken care to make a high-end laptop, putting only the best inside. The company itself assures us that this laptop is twice as powerful as the MacBook Pro.
As for the design, Microsoft tells us that it is built on a magnesium body, ensuring a solid and lightweight final product. The keyboard has its own lighting and, according to the Redmond company, is completely silent in use.
The Surface Book is also a hybrid
Although at first we thought it was a laptop, the Surface Book continues to maintain the hybrid ideology that it has been implementing in the latest Microsoft products. In other words, the screen can also be detached from the keyboard and used as a tablet, especially thanks to the light weight that allows us to use a 13.5-inch screen without no problem.
An interesting fact commented by Wired is that the Nvidia GPU is on the keyboard, while the Intel processor is on the screen.This means that if we remove the screen from the keyboard, we can use the equipment for light tasks thanks to the Intel processor. And instead, if we want to play or do tasks that require processing power, we can reconnect the screen to the keyboard and the team will use the Nvidia GPU,
Obviously Microsoft didn't leave out the stylus, as we can also use it on the screen without any problem.
Price and availability
The Microsoft Surface Book starts at $1,500, with pre-orders starting tomorrow (October 7), and will be available to the public on the 26th of the same month.
Like the Surface Pro 4, we don't have data on its availability in other countries.
