Satellite Click 10 and Radius 12
Table of contents:
Toshiba has attended this IFA 2015 to talk about storage and leaving the devices in the background. But that hasn't prevented them from showing a couple of rather interesting novelties such as the new Click 10 and Radius 12 and 14 from their Satellite range, two teams with which will try to maintain its position in the sectorof high-end laptops.
These are two totally different concepts. On the one hand we have a Click 10 in which versatility prevails because it is a hybrid from which we can remove the keyboard to use it as a tablet. On the other hand, instead, we have the Radius range, two brothers, among which a Radius 12 stands out, which they have dared to equip with a 4K resolution screen.
Satellite Click 10
Manufacturers are looking to two-in-one and hybrid equipment for a new workhorse to rescue laptop sales, and Toshiba is no stranger to this trend. The Satellite Click 10 is, in essence and hardware, a spectacular high-end tablet with Intel Atom processor, 4 GB of RAM and up to 15 hours of battery life.
So much power comes in handy to be able to easily perform laptop functions when we connect your keyboard. But it will also help a Windows 10 that, from what we have been able to see, detects every time we connect or disconnect the keyboard and asks us if we want to activate or deactivate tablet modefrom your start menu.
It will also stand out for knowing how to maintain the excellent finishes and materials that Toshiba has accustomed us to in its high range, and for reacting to the problems that other manufacturers are having, having assured us that they will serve us a clean Windows 10 with as little bloatware as possible, although there are still classics such as McAfee antivirus that refuse to disappear as a basic security solution.
The two big questions we had when we launched our article talking about all the features of the Click 10 were its price and availability. Well then, it is expected that it will begin to be marketed during the last quarter of the year at a price of 399 euros which may vary depending on the hardware configuration we choose.
Satellite Radius 12
4K resolution is increasingly present among us, and we are already seeing the first manufacturers dare to equip it on mobile phones such as Sony or ultralight convertibles like the Satellite Radius 12. But is it really necessary? Is the user really going to notice the difference if they put a FullHD monitor and a 4K monitor aside?
Toshiba's answer is yes, something obvious considering that they are the ones who are risking to market a 12.5-inch convertible laptop with 4K Although in order not to get too caught up in their fingers, after ensuring that the jump to 4K was perceptible even on such small screens, they also qualified by saying that to a certain extent it also depended on the view of each user.
But regardless of my opinion or that of the Toshiba technicians, those who always have the last word when deciding whether a product is right with its bet are the consumers. Therefore, we can begin to see the results of this move from the fourth quarter of the year, possibly in October, since that is when this device will begin to be marketed at a price of 1,399 which may vary depending on the hardware configuration.
It is true that it can be a high price, but we must remember that Toshiba does not work with medium ranges and always puts all the meat on the grillFor this reason, in the Radius 12 we will find an outstanding finish, sixth-generation Intel Skylake processors, up to 8 GB of RAM memory, integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 graphics, SSD hard drive up to 512 GB, two USB 3.0 and a port USB Type-C. What more could you ask for?
Storage, Toshiba's true bet
But despite the novelties, laptops are a secondary sector for Toshiba that has focused its discourse and efforts on the different ramifications of the internal storage sector, a section that currently already represents22% of all global revenue of the company, a figure that rises to 40% when referring to Europe.
In this context, other Toshiba novelties have been its new ranges of SATA drives and SSDs On the one hand, SSDs Q300 and Q300 Pro with 19nm frame and 3-bit-per-cell and 2-bit-per-cell NAND Flash technologies respectively. As for SATA, Toshiba has presented up to five different ranges with various amounts of buffer (up to 128 MB) and 7,200 rpm.
The cloud has its dangers, and every two by three scandals are jumping that remind us of it. Toshiba is ready to introduce an alternative, and will do so with different products that use TransferJet technology in a range of connectors that will allow us to move files from one device to another without the need for cablesnor to use the cloud of any third-party company.
This range is one of Toshiba's crown jewels, consisting of SD cards for cameras and USB connectors for computers, microUSB for Android and Apple adapter for iPhone, iPad and iPod. It will be enough to have your specific application downloaded to our devices and to move these connectors a few centimeters between them to be able to transfer the files wirelessly and at full speed.
