A more powerful Surface? Geekbench reveals a new, more powerful Qualcomm processor to stand up to the competition
Table of contents:
It was one of the news items that appeared a few hours ago. The processor used in the Mac Mini delivered to developers, at the time the same as the one used in the iPad Pro 2020, destroyed the performance offered by the Surface Pro X with a Qualcomm processor, a team that did not Let's forget, he has less than a year to live
Leaving aside the controversy, the truth is that Apple's jump to Silicone will cause people to talk and we have already seen the first sketches of what can come our way.A Surface Pro X with a performance step below? Apparently this difference can be mitigated, at least if we take into account the results in Geekbench, where we see a Surface with a new SoC.
More power
We already knew that Qualcomm is working on a new processor. Remember that among the specifications of the Surface Pro X, the top-of-the-range processor, the Qualcomm SnapDragon SC8180XP, can work at 3 Ghz. A processor that may have shown up in Geekbench.
Remember that the Surface Pro X mounts the SQ1 is a variant of the Snapdragon 8cx, manufactured with 7 nm technology and with a TDP very content of only 7 watts. An octa-core CPU that is capable of reaching up to 3 GHz on its cores.
In the popular application to measure the performance of equipment, a mysterious device has appeared. Codenamed OEMSR, this device could be using a new processor from Qualcomm that would succeed the current Snapdragon 8cx informally known as the SC8180X.
In the leaked test sheet, we can find ourselves before the expected 8180X Plus, a new SoC that Qualcomm would be testing in a Surface device and in which the clock speed it rises to reach 3.15 Ghz A team that is accompanied in the test by 16 GB of RAM, improving the performance of the Snapdragon 8cx.
Based on the filtered data, we are dealing with a processor with 8 cores of which 4 cores will work at 3.15 Ghz, compared to 3 Ghz. The 4 lowest powered cores will continue to run at 1.8 Ghz. For its part, the Adreno 685 GPU will increase power up to 718 Mhz.
For now we don't know if this new processor will accompany a new Surface Pro X or it will be a new alternative that will be incorporated into the range already available on the market.
