From Shanghai: This is the new Microsoft Surface Pro with which Microsoft wants to fight the competition
Table of contents:
It has already been submitted. We already have with us the heiress of the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 who leaves the nickname Pro along the way to stay in Surface Pro to dry A convertible presented at the Shanghai event that offers some more than interesting specifications."
And in the development a clear inspiration in terms of colors in the Surface Laptop (the presence of Alcantara fabric finishes are an example) and in which we miss some details such as the commitment to the USB Type-C portBut let's learn more about everything it offers.
Renewed design
"The new Surface has undergone a redesign in some aspects, as it now has somewhat more rounded edges. In addition and following the trend of the Surface Laptop, the hinge system has been integrated An opening of the hinges that also allows a 165-degree opening that they call Mode Studio>."
The connectors now offer a new design so that offers a higher quality look to match the new keyboards (Type Cover) , which have the same material and finish (Alcantara) that we saw in the Surface Laptop. A keyboard that also uses the same magnetic anchoring system to the screen. And to complete the change in appearance, it also inherits the colors that we already saw on the laptop, that is, we have variants in platinum, burgundy, and cob alt blue
Lighter and quieter, but just as powerful
And now we get down to business. Regarding the hardware of the new convertible we found variants with Intel Core i5 Kaby Lake processor, so that thanks to not requiring active ventilation we will not have to listen to the fans and feel the dissipated heat that the Surface Pro 4 had, for example.
And if Intel Core i5 Kaby Lake seems little to you, you can opt for the model with Intel Core i7 Kaby Lake (already with fan ) although from Microsoft they assure that it will be less noisy. The measurements of the screen do not vary, remaining at 12.3 inches with Pixel Sense technology (267 dpi) and 3:2 format.
We continue that, yes, no USB Type-C port we already said, Microsoft doesn't like it. So for this new Surface Pro they choose to add a USB 3.0 port, microSD card reader, Mini DisplayPort, cover/keyboard port and Surface Connect for the dock .
Regarding the battery the new model offers up to 13 and a half hours of autonomy (according to Microsoft9 allowing greater efficiency than the previous model (up to 50%).But as always, it will be the actual use that shows what the real figures are.
A pencil renewed inside and out
Of new Surface Pro stands out the pencil, which has been renewed in the aesthetic section, giving coverage to the same colors that we already saw in the Surface Laptop. Also inside it a new hardware that allows detecting up to 4,096 levels of pressure and reducing the delay to only 21 milliseconds, half half, according to Microsoft, than Apple Pencil. Also, Microsoft Office benefits from these new features.
On the other hand, Microsoft's new pen is backwards compatible with the Surface Pro 4 and earlier versions of Microsoft's convertible.
Price and availability
The new Surface Pro will hit the markets in Wi-Fi and LTE versions starting next June 15 in the markets that already have the current model, being able to reserve it from now on with some prices that start from 949 euros in Spain and that are complemented by the cost of accessories which for now we only know the price in the United States: 99 dollars for the Suface Pen and 129 dollars for the keyboard (Type Cover).
Comparison with the competition
And since we have it announced and leaving aside the fact that everyone can then have their preferences, it's time to compare it in figures with the other models that are currently on the market. It is about looking for the model that best suits the needs and budget, this is the comparison in specifications, which right now shows the three models and with the Surface Newly released pro, the battle looks more than interesting.
