For some time Asus has been offering an interesting range of Windows 8 convertible computers, the Asus Transformer And apparently, the Sales of these devices have been good enough for the company to want to venture into derivative ranges, such as the Asus Transformer Chi, a new line of convertibles presented at CES 2015 and which seeks to stand out for its extreme thinness and premium finish
The line is made up of 3 models, ranging from 8.9 to 12.5 inches, all sharing a structure aluminum unibody , the use of a powerful magnetic connection between the keyboard and the tablet, and the use of screens with IPS technology.Let's see what each of the models offers us in particular.
Asus Transformer Chi T300
At 12.5 inches, this is the largest device in the family, which seeks to compete in the segment of large tablets, but also in that of ultrabooks.
Your screen has a WQHD resolution of 2560 x 1440 (the same as we find on the Surface Pro 3), which translates into a density of 235 pixels per inch. Inside it has a Intel Core M processor, which allows them to have more power than tablets with Intel Atom, without losing autonomy or having to incorporate fans .
Asus touts it as the world's thinnest 12-inch Windows tablet, being just 7.6mm thick, which increase to 16.5 when attached to the keyboard. Its autonomy is approximately 8 hours, and we are allowed to configure it with 4 or 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of SSD storage.
Its final price will be 799 dollars, which are reduced to 699 if we opt for a variant with a lower resolution screen (Full HD instead of WQHD).
Asus Transformer Chi T100
For those looking for a less powerful and more portable convertible, the T100 may be a better option. It's a 10.1-inch display that's even thinner than the T300 when used in tablet mode: just 7.2 millimeters thick
Includes an Intel Atom quad-core processor, instead of an Intel Core M, and the screen is Full HD resolution. Despite that, the battery life is the same as the T300: 8 hours. In the rest of the specifications, we find 2 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage, expandable via microSD.
Its price will be $399, and unlike its older brother, this device will include a 1-year subscription to Office 365, along with 1TB on OneDrive.
Asus Transformer Chi T90
We finally arrived the smallest team in the series. At just 8.9 inches and 7.5 millimeters thick in tablet mode, the T90 promises to be the ideal companion for those seeking productivity accompanied by extreme mobility.
As with the T100, this convertible features an Intel Atom quad-core processor, 2 GB of RAM, and includes 1 year of Office 365 Personal. However, the screen resolution is lower (1200 x 800 pixels), and it can be purchased in variants of 32 and 64 GB of internal storage.
It will be priced at $299, and like all the other models, it will go on sale during February.
Accessories, and the problem of missing ports
An obvious disadvantage that appears when looking at the specifications and videos of these devices is the absence of ports, such as USB 3.0 or Ethernet , which we can find in similar-sized convertibles launched at CES 2015.
This is partly because the keyboard of the Transformer Chi functions solely as such, and does not provide additional connections, nor does it provide an extra battery In other words, the only ports available will be found on the screen/tablet, which includes only a microUSB input, a microHDMI output, and a microSD card reader .
On the positive side, Asus allows us to separately purchase an active digital pen, with which we can write easily, even supporting the palm of the hand on the screen. This pen uses a rechargeable battery that promises to last 2 months.
Another useful accessory is the Chi TriCover magnetic case, which along with protecting the equipment can be used as a stand to support the tablet.
Unfortunately, Asus hasn't mentioned a word about the price or availability of these accessories.
