We had already heard about the possibility of seeing Android and Windows devices from Asus and Intel, although a month ago we received statements stating that Asus would not continue with this project due to to pressure from Google to prevent it.

Now ASUS presents at Computex 2014 its new Transformer Book V, capable of adopting up to 5 different configurations and run Android or Windows as the user prefers. It can work as a tablet or laptop on both systems, although the same is not the case with a mobile phone, since it is Android.

ASUS Transformer Book V

Computex is Taiwan's largest annual technology exhibition, and Asus has used this year's edition to showcase its new range of devices. Among them we find a laptop, the Zenbook NX500, an Ultrabook that shines with its UHD screen; the Transformer Book T300 Chi, a very slim convertible device with LTE support; or the ASUS Transformers Book V (among others).

The latter is capable of running Android 4.4 or Windows 8.1 at the user's choice by means of a physical button to switch from one to the other, in tablet or laptop mode. In addition, an Android mobile phone is included that can be inserted into the back of the Transformer Book V screen.

Yes, although it can be used as a Windows laptop, Windows tablet, Android phone, Android tablet or Android laptop; the file system of each operating system is isolated from the other. This means that at least by default, it will not be possible to share files from one system to another.

Models have been seen in white, black and gray colors, although it is not known if more colors will be available once it hits the market .

Specifications and Availability

The Asus Transformers Book V has an Intel processor not yet specified, which will be responsible for running the computer in Windows mode 8.1, without the need for the smartphone to be attached to the back of it.

However, to make use of Android 4.4 mode it will be necessary, since this system is not installed on the tablet. And if we insert the smartphone while running Windows, we can see the Android interface within Windows itself as if we were using an emulator, through which we can transfer files from the tablet to phone.

How could it be otherwise, all the components of this device are integrated together with the 12.5-inch IPS screen that has a resolution of 1280x720 pixelsWithout taking the keyboard and the smartphone into account, it weighs 800 grams which makes it a light device if we think about what it offers.

It has 4GB of RAM and an SSD with 128GB of storage. The power supply is provided by a 28Wh battery that, according to the specifications offered by ASUS allows it to be used for up to 10 continuous hours.

The 7mm thick keyboard included with the Asus Transformers Book V does not offer an auxiliary battery to extend the device's autonomy, but it is capable of holding an additional hard drive with a capacity of up to 1TB.

In this keyboard we also find a trackpad of more than enough size to be able to use it without space problems, but many like me will prefer to connect an external mouse instead of using this touch surface.

If we talk about the smartphone, we are looking at a 5-inch device reminiscent of the ASUS ZenFone 5 and running Android 4.4 under an Intel Atom processor from the Moorefield family.

It has 2GB of RAM memory and 64GB of internal storage, which is quite a high amount, all supported by a battery of 2,500 mAh. It has a rear camera of 8 Mpixels and a front camera of 2 Mpixels, contained in a body with a weight of 140 grams and a thickness of 11 mm.

It seems that to know how much it will cost or when it will go on sale we will have to wait, since the company has not revealed details about it in the event.
