Lenovo has brought a large number of PCs to CES 2014 adding to its family of devices with Windows 8.1 inside. One of them is the 8-inch version of its Thinkpad tablet, which arrives with the intention of maintaining the traditional style of Thinkpad brand productive equipment in a smaller screen format.

To this end, the Chinese company has prepared a Lenovo Thinkpad 8 which immediately becomes, on paper and for the moment, best-in-class for Windows 8.1 tablets under 10 inches. It achieves this mainly thanks to a more than decent screen, but also to the rest of the features that we review here.

Lenovo Thinkpad 8, better on screen

Lenovo has started to beat the competition with its 8.3-inch display and the 1920x1080 pixel resolution chosen for it. The Thinkpad 8 is thus the first of the tablets with Windows 8.1 that exceeds the standard resolution of 1280x800 that had been imposed among manufacturers.

It doesn't make much of a difference in the rest of the features, although it does point out interesting things. The Lenovo Thinkpad 8 features a Intel Atom Z3770 processor, incorporating 2.4GHz quad-cores on the Bay Trail platform. He is accompanied by 2 GB of RAM and 32, 64 or 128 GB of storage depending on the version of the tablet we choose.

The design of this new Lenovo tablet exudes a Thinkpad aroma on all four sides, with the characteristic black color with red touches of the range. The dimensions are kept at some contents 430 grams of weight and 8.8 millimeters thick.

Tablet for professionals in some details, in others not

The design is not the only thing about this Thinkpad 8 that reminds us that we are talking about a family of equipment designed for the professional market. In addition to full Windows 8.1, Lenovo has incorporated a micro HDMI input and a more than welcome micro USB 3.0 port into its new tablet. Also, some of the versions will come with option for 3G/LTE

There is no support for a stylus or digital pencil, a detail that seems like a small inconvenience for a professional tablet. But instead we do have an official case, called Quickshot Cover, which magnetically adheres to one side of the tablet and protects its screen.

The cover, which is sold separately, incorporates a corner that, when folded, reveals the rear camera and directly opens the application to take photos. This main camera is 8 megapixels with LED flash and is accompanied by a 2 megapixel front camera.

Lenovo Thinkpad 8, Price and Availability

In the United States you won't have to wait long to enjoy this new tablet. And it is that the Lenovo Thinkpad 8 will be available in the North American country during this same month of January at a price of 399 dollars.

But the company has not yet revealed the availability and price of the device for the rest of the territories, so, for the moment, we do not know the details for Spainand other countries.
