Sony Vaio Tap 11

Sony yesterday presented its tablet with Windows: the Sony Vaio Tap 11. 11-inch FullHD screen accompanied by a wireless keyboard and a pressure-sensitive stylus, all with a really attractive design. Today we have been able to test it for a few minutes at IFA 2013, and we bring you our first impressions.

In general it is a very good tablet, but it has its faults. There are details that have not been taken care of too much, some points that seem too fragile and the construction does not quite convince me. The change with respect to the press photos is very curious: live, the Vaio Tap gives the sensation of being made up of many more parts that are not quite well assembled. For example, the Windows button on the screen, which appears tactile, is actually physical and requires a longer press than normal to activate.

Another problem that I have found with the tablet is the cover of the USB and HDMI connectors. By itself I'm not a big fan of this type of solution to hide the connectors (it's okay because they're exposed), and in this case the fact that it's attached to the body by just a plastic connector doesn't inspire me much confidence either. .

That lid won't last long.

Of course, it's not all bad things. The screen, the little that I have been able to test it, is really good. The image quality is outstanding, and the tactile part is not lacking: fingers glide easily across the screen, it doesn't have too many reflections and it withstands fingerprints quite well.

The keyboard is also very well done. For a flat and slim it's really comfortable, the keys have more than enough travel and the size of the keys and the distance between them make typing quite a pleasant task .

I wasn't attracted to the fact that the keyboard didn't stick to the tablet while we typed. Luckily, Sony has compensated for this by making the base non-slip, in such a way that it hardly moves with respect to the tablet. The magnetic union with the screen is also very well worked: we simply glue the two and it will stay in the correct position without any problem.

I also have a bittersweet feeling with the rear support of the Vaio Tap 11. With it we can adjust the inclination of the tablet we want without any problem, and also it doesn't slide at any time. However, it has a problem: it fits very badly with the design of the back, and it doesn't seem particularly resistant. These two sections had been resolved much better by Surface; It's a shame they couldn't come up with a better way to make the support.

The highlight of the Vaio Tap 11 is its size and weight. Barely 99 millimeters in height, with the keyboard attached it is only a little taller than the Lumia 920. The weight is minimal, it is very light and very comfortable to hold in the hand. In this section, Sony deserves a 10.

Sony Vaio Tap 11, conclusions

The Vaio Tap 11 leaves me with mixed feelings. It has very good parts, but it is not just a tablet that stands out especially. In its favor, the size and weight, having Windows 8 Pro and the quality of the screen. Against, a construction that does not quite convince me with certain careless details. In the end, I think my final impression will depend on the price it has (of course, also on a calmer analysis that we do later).
