Nvidia Tegra 4 the new heart of tablets with Windows RT
Table of contents:
Nvidia has revealed the new generation of processors under ARM architecture for mobile phones and tablets in 2013, we know that the Surface RT will move thanks to the previous version of this SoC, so it will be interesting to review what this new processing platform offers us for the devices that are about to arrive.
Tegra 4, technical characteristics
The new Nvidia Tegra 4 arrives with the same configuration as its predecessor, boasting four cores for processing plus an extra one designed to run tasks and processes when the device is in sleep mode.
Each core shares the novelty of being designed under the ARM Cortex A15 architecture, being the first SoC with this number of cores and with this design architecture. Its graphics are possible thanks to 72 cores in a new ULP GeForce that would move up to six times faster than its previous version.
We also have an extra novelty, which takes advantage of a dedicated kernel to work on photographic processes, they call it Computational Photography Engine and would allow for faster photo processing to possibly deliver a consistent HDR effect, and position mobile devices on par with a professional DSLR camera.
In the connectivity section we find the novelty of the inclusion of LTE connectivity, although not in an integrated way, the Tegra 4 can adapt its operation with an LTE radio chip to work on those communication networks.
Nvidia Tegra 4 and Windows RT
Although there is no official announcement for now, it is almost certain that during the year we will see a tablet running Windows RT and with this new internal hardware, these devices would enjoy great power, both processing and graphics, in addition to mentioning a significant increase in autonomy.
Another issue that would be important to note after the announcement of this SoC, is that with native support of LTE radios we could see devices with high speed wireless connection capabilities , an important point if we review the characteristics of a high-end tablet of the latest generation.
Just as a fact, at the Nvidia presentation that took place at CES 2013 the CEO demonstrated his Tegra 4 on an unknown tablet running Windows RT showing off the photographic capabilities of its new SoC.
