The numbers do not leave Windows mobile and its market share in a good place

Yesterday we already told how from Microsoft they continue to affirm that they will continue betting on Windows 10 Mobile with the launch of new Builds, some compilations that will continue reaching the market even after the spring update, the Creators Update.

And they have work ahead of them if, as we already said, they want to reverse the trend that is manifested month after month in the form of numbers And it is that the figures are cruel but realistic when it comes to showing the presence of Windows Phone in the market, a share that contrasts abysmal with that of iOS and Android.

The latest figures that come to light are those offered by Gartner and in them and as we already feared, Microsoft's mobile ecosystem is not doing very wellWe are talking about presence in the markets and it is not about being cruel, just reflecting reality.

In this sense, the sales quota in the last quarter of 2016 stands at a figure of just over one million units soldA quantity that contrasts enormously with the 77 million terminals with iOS placed on the market and not to mention the 352 million terminals with Android.

These figures highlight the dictatorship of Android with 81.7% of market presence, followed by iOS with a 17.9%. Between the two, beware, a 99.6% market. A figure that leaves a pitiful 0.3% for the rest of the systems, including Windows Phone.Accompanying the Redmond system are the boys from Waterloo with BlackBerry and their 200,000 terminals sold.

Some figures that remind us when with the arrival of Windows Phone many of us thought we could be facing an alternative to the duopoly that now seems impossible to move. An agile, original operating system... that brought freshness to a market that was too stagnant at that time.

However, time has passed and all those who predicted a battle against the big two, a triplet of operating systems that would dominate the markets, had lost reason and hope. What we have seen is that the slow decline of Windows Phone has been taken advantage of by iOS and Android to continue growing in sales

Chinese brands rise strongly

On the other hand, they have also published a list with the manufacturers that sell the most and as expected, it throws up few surprises. With Samsung dominating sales and closely followed by Apple, the continued escalation of Huawei and other Chinese manufacturers such as Oppo stands out. This has meant the displacement of classic brands such as HTC, LG or Sony Mobile. Perhaps in the not too long a time Nokia will be on this list again, although now with Android and not Windows Phone.

So it's clear that at Microsoft they have some hard work ahead of them if they want to revive their mobile platform. We would love it if there were not three, but more options on the market to choose from, because we must not forget that competition is he althy and in the end it is the user who benefits.
