Kantar figures continue to put sales of Windows phones in a very bad place
Once again we have with us on a regular basis, Kantar's facts and figures on the mobile market. Data that reveals the reality of mobile terminal sales in the different markets and that reflect, month by month, the harsh reality that Redmond faces.
And the fact is that it is still an ordeal the path that the mobile platform under Windows has beendeveloping for some time now with figures that in the best of cases experience a slight drop or in the worst of omens, drop significantly.
And this month was not going to be any different. For reasons such as the absence of new terminals that attract the consumer or due to the scant interest of developers in the platform, the truth is that the figures not only they do not finish taking off, but each time they paint worse.
If we look at sales in European territory we see how these have dropped in a generalized way in a not so important way, yes and only they are saved by the numbers that are achieved in countries like Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom, where traditionally the Windows mobile ecosystem has had a pull. However, they are still anecdotal if we compare them with other systems.
But the thing is that you look at Spain and the panorama is bleak. Looking at the figures, it is worth considering whether terminals are still sold under Windows in Spain, in a scenario dominated by Android with more than 90% of the market followed light years away by iOS with slightly less than 10%.
Can Windows Phone be worse? Well yes, since BlackBerry directly places 0% in its locker with the difference that Microsoft has made a great effort to promote its platform, an effort that for now it has not been seen compensating and it is clearly insufficient.
In other markets such as the United States, the sales share has risen slightly from 1.3 to 1.6%, but equally It is far from being a viable alternative (for now) to the dominators of the market.
The figures are not misleading, especially if we compare them with those of just a year ago, well so far this year they have remained almost unchanged and suggest that the markets are waiting for new models to know whether to bet on the platform or continue to turn their backs on it. Operators, users, businesses, would offer new proposals in their catalog but of course, for that they must start by launching new phones with Windows 10 Mobile and for now…
