Thus, and although the aforementioned explained at the time that the non-arrival of official form did not mean that these terminals could not be updated thanks to the Insider program (where all excluded smartphones had the opportunity to continue receiving cumulative updates), the imminent arrival of the Anniversary Update seems to have changed their minds.
Yes, because with its arrival -on August 2- the Threshold 2 version (10586) will be left behind to move to the new version 14393, a change that will make those affected leave to receive updates. An explanation that, according to the company, has been detailed in a statement published in Microsoft Answers.
“With the upcoming release of the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, the Release Preview ring now only has Build 14393. These changes will impact unsupported devices as follows:
- As previously announced, unsupported devices will not receive builds or updates above version 10586.x.
- These will not be able to select any rings from the Windows Insider program in the app enabled for it.
- Updates to applications and services may be unavailable and in some cases.
- Unsupported devices can download Windows Device Recovery Tool to get back to Windows Phone 8.1, but have no option for Windows 10 Mobile?.
