Kantar quarterly survey reveals Windows Phone sales still low
Periodically the company Kantar publishes the data related to growth and sales on the different platforms and we have spent quite some time (to the anger of many readers) seeing how the numbers of Windows Phone/Windows 10 Mobile are not rosy at all
And it is that while Android has a more intense dominance than ever, even at the cost of minimizing sales of the almighty iPhone, Windows Phone's numbers are dwindling , in this case those referring to the first quarter of the year.
These data reveal that when choosing a mobile, users seem not to take the Microsoft platform into account, something which has caused sales to drop significantly in markets where they traditionally had some relevance.
To see the evolution the data for this first quarter have been compared with the same months of the previous year and while in that period in In countries such as Germany, Great Britain, France, Italy and Spain, the share of Windows Phone sales was 9.9% of the total number of phones sold, this year in the same period the figure has fallen to 4.9%, 5% fewer devices, a figure that contrasts with the rise in Android sales that went from 68.5% to 76.5%.
In Spain things are not looking much better and if last year sales accounted for 2.8% of the total market, this year they have dropped to 0.6%, which means a fall of 2.2% (an outrage considering that they represented 2.8%).
According to Dominic Sunnebo, Head of Kantar Worldpanel ComTech for Europe:
Migration of users from Windows Phone has been especially notable in France and Italy, where 10% of those users have migrated to Androidand more and more Windows Phone/Windows 10 Mobile users are switching to Android, where they have a greater variety of models.
Here we only reflect the figures, and the numbers are not usually misleading with their hardness It is not valued if a system is better or worse than another, but what is clear is that time is running out for Microsoft and it has to find a way out if it wants to continue being that great alternative to the two great dominators of the market _Business market? Education system? Conventional users? Need for more terminals on the market?_ Windows 10 Mobile is at a difficult crossroads.
