As we announced a few hours ago, Microsoft has chosen today to launch build 10581 of Windows 10 Mobile for the members of the fast ring of the Insider program. This new build is now available to download and install, even from computers with previous builds of Windows 10 Mobile, unlike previous versions, which forced you to go back to Windows Phone 8.1 in order to upgrade.

"Now you simply have to go to the Updates section, within Windows 10 Mobile Settings, and press the Check for updates button (for this to work we have to be previously registered in the Insider program, and signed in to the phone with the Microsoft account registered in that program)."

No new features, but better performance and battery life

Windows 10 Mobile build 10581 does not release any new features, but instead focuses on improving the performance and efficiency of the operating system , something highly demanded by users after excessive battery drain problems were seen in many devices (added to the fact that the performance of Windows 10 Mobile has never been at the level of Windows Phone 8.1). Hopefully all that will change in this new build.

Bugs fixed in this build

  • "Lumia Icon, 930 and 1520 upgrading from Windows Phone 8.1 will finally be able to use the Hey Cortana feature. To activate it, simply go to Settings > Extras > Hey Cortana ."
  • It is now possible to select photos to share from applications such as WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Instagram, etc.
  • Fixes an issue that prevented certain apps from being chosen to display detailed status on the lock screen.
  • Text prediction and auto-correct have been improved.
  • Video recording has been improved.
  • Visual voicemail synchronization should now work correctly.
  • Fixed issues with dual SIM phones in the previous build.

Known Issues

Although multiple bugs from previous versions have been fixed, we are still in a preliminary build, so there are still issues that have not yet been fixed by Microsoft. These include:

  • When upgrading to build 10581, the computer screen may appear black for about 5 minutes during the installation process. Just wait a bit and the phone will work again.
  • There are problems trying to set the default storage locations (internal space vs SD card).
  • After moving applications to the SD card, it may happen that these applications do not start correctly. This can be fixed by restarting the computer.
  • Issue for developers: In this build it is not possible to test Silverlight applications on the phone using Visual Studio.
  • When restoring a backup from a phone with a different resolution, the Home screen may show errors. This can be fixed by going to the notification center > Settings > Personalization > Start and from there change the Start background image.

"Never seen before, new PC and mobile builds on the same day"

"

Along with launching this new build for mobiles, Gabriel Aul has clarified that the never before seen>launching a new build for PC and one for mobile on the same dayTherefore, during the next few hours we will also have to test a build of Windows 10 for PCs during the next few hours."
