A couple of hours ago Microsoft released the latest public build of Windows 10 Mobile, number 10149, which can now be installed by All Insiders with a supported phone. And as we already anticipated in the morning based on leaked information, this new build includes numerous new features and improvements that users will appreciate.
We already reported many of them when reporting on the leaked screenshots, but the official note from Microsoft reports on some more that may be of interest to several, along with also detailing which errors have already been resolved and persistent bugs that accompany this release.
The most important mistake of all
"First of all, we want to reiterate the information about the Blank lock screen error that we already discussed in the other post . Once we update to build 10149 we will see the device lock screen without the date and time, and it will be stuck, preventing us from unlocking the terminal. Leave it like that and wait, as the problem will resolve itself in about 10 minutes Just be patient."
It is very important DO NOT RESTART the phone while the lock screen is in trouble, as that can leave it in a bricked state. "

- As we anticipated, Project Spartan has already changed its name to Microsoft Edge, and the address bar is back on the top bottom of the screen, making it easy to use the computer with one hand.In addition, it is possible to choose between viewing the sites in mobile mode or desktop mode. Unfortunately, as a side effect of this change, those who want to upgrade to this build will lose all their bookmarks, history, cookies, and reading list, as Microsoft Edge uses app id >."
-
Improvements in the user experience. Another change that had already been leaked to the public: we are facing a new, much more stable build , fast and polished in terms of experience. This translates, for example, into new animations, that the tiles on the home screen no longer have blurred icons, that the volume bar now uses new icons, and that in general the operating system responds better to all our actions.

"
Cortana improvements. The Cortana notebook now offers a more integrated experience for accessing your profile and settings, and also reintroduces the Quiet Hours option>"
-
Flashlight and improvements in the Action Center. We also anticipated it in the morning: the notification center (or Action Center) now offers room for more shortcuts in its expanded mode, and allows one of them to quickly activate the phone's flashlight function (either by flashing, or by turning the screen to white).

"
Improvements in the photos application. This is strictly speaking not a novelty of the build itself, but an update of the app being released through the Windows Store. Among the new features included is GIFs support on phones with more than 1 GB of RAM, being able to access saved photos, screenshots, and film rolls. camera directly from the Albums page. There are also performance and stability improvements."
-
Automatic backup of photos via OneDrive. A Windows Phone 8.1 feature that was lost, but is now back. Of course, it is no longer integrated into the system, but works through the OneDrive application.
-
Other application updates. Microsoft reminds us that many of the system apps are being updated independently of the operating system, through the Windows Store, so we can deliver news faster to users.
Errors already resolved
-
Fixed a bug that existed since build 10051 and that prevented the call and SMS filter from working correctly.
-
In the past, notifications for incoming text messages could not appear. Also resolved.
-
The podcast app now works correctly.
-
Resolves various issues that prevented apps from being downloaded or installed from the Store.
-
Fixes an issue that prevented the navigation bar (Back, Home, and Search buttons) from being hidden on certain phones.
Known and unresolved bugs
-
Some users may have problems upgrading from build 10136 to this (bug 80091007). There is no fix for this yet, and the only alternative for those who want to install build 10149 is to downgrade to Windows Phone 8.1 using the Windows Phone Recovery Tool, and there update directly to the latest build.
-
The Insider Hub is not available in this build, but will appear again in future builds.
-
"Sometimes the PIN pad will not appear when trying to unlock the phone by lifting the lock screen. A workaround for that is to invoke the notification center (by swiping down on the top edge of the screen) and then click All Options. With this the PIN pad should appear on the screen."
-
"
Serious problem, but infrequent: It may happen that when entering the PIN to unlock the phone we are asked to enter it again and again again, instead of unlocking. If that is our case, we must leave the phone alone for 1 or 2 hours before trying to unlock it again. If we do not follow that instruction, the situation may worsen, and the phone is at risk of being bricked."
-
If we have added a Gmail account, the Messaging application may have problems sending and receiving messages. We can try to resolve this by restarting the computer.
-
The operating system does not yet support in-app purchases, and installing previously purchased games or applications may cause them to be downloaded as trial versions, rather than full versions.
-
Sometimes the colors of some applications may be displayed incorrectly. For example, the title bar in the Outlook application appears orange.
-
Sometimes the Action Center notification list may appear empty by mistake.
Personally I&39;ve been using the build for a couple of hours on a Lumia 520 and I think that while it&39;s true that performance and stability are much better than in previous versions, Windows 10 Mobile is still a long way from becoming our everyday companion, especially on computers with less power and RAM."
