Microsoft publishes an official list of what's new in Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2
Although the gaze of all Windows Phone users today is focused on Windows 10 Mobile, we must not forget that there is an intermediate update between Lumia Denim and Windows 10, which is Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2.
This update is installed by default on the latest Windows Phones released, the Lumia 640, 640 XL and LG Lancet, and is also being released for Lumia 735 /730 and 830 Until now we had found out, unofficially, about some new features of this update, such as support for Bluetooth keyboards, and the better organization of the options menu, but Microsoft I had not published an official log of changes until now
This has now changed, as Redmond has just published an official changelog for that update, which mentions the following new features:
-
Improvements to the settings menu, which is now organized by categories and includes a search box to quickly find options.
-
Calendar re-includes agenda view.
-
Possibility to change the phone's name from the same device interface (previously this required connecting the phone to a PC and using the Windows Phone app for desktop/Modern UI).
-
Support to keep the device always connected to VPN, and also to use certificates when connecting to VPN using the L2TP protocol.
-
Support for keyboards and hands-free systems for cars, both via Bluetooth .
-
Ability to adjust the privacy options for each installed application, thus choosing what types of data and sensors each can access ( contacts, calendar, camera, microphone, location, etc).
Of course, this list is not exhaustive, since we know from other sources that Update 2 also includes support for MKV, protection anti-theft, and possibility to hide the navigation bar by double tapping on it.
We don't know if Microsoft plans to publish an exhaustive list with all the news of Update 2, or officially confirm for which computers it will be released, between now and the arrival of Windows 10 Mobile.
