Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 includes support for MKV and anti-theft protection
In Xataka Windows we have already talked a couple of times about the Update 2 of Windows Phone 8.1, which we can consider as a step intermediate between Update 1 and Windows 10, and whose existence was confirmed after the Lumia 640 and 640 XL included it pre-installed. "
Among the novelties that had already been discovered in this update is the renewal of the settings menu, which is now more organized and consistent with the Windows 10 experience, the inclusion of advanced privacy controls, and support for Bluetooth keyboards, such as the Microsoft Universal Foldable Keyboard.
However, it has now been revealed that this version of Windows Phone also includes support for MKV videos, a feature that It is already confirmed within Windows 10, but it can be enjoyed from now on by those who own a Lumia with Update 2.
The reset block makes it difficult for someone who has stolen our equipment to resell itIn addition, Microsoft has activated another relevant feature of this update: anti-theft protection by blocking system restore When activating this option, the device will be completely unusable if someone who does not know our credentials tries to reset it, which means that the phone cannot be resold by someone who has stolen it
While this doesn't solve the problem for someone who has already had their computer stolen, it does it discourages theft of Windows computers in general (the same function has already had good results on iOS).In addition, users will continue to have the option to deactivate this function voluntarily in order to resell the equipment by ourselves. More information on how this feature works can be found here.
As mentioned above, the only devices where Update 2 is available for now are the Lumia 640, 640 XL, although Microsoft has confirmed that the Lumia 735 and 830 will also receive this update. This does not mean that the rest of us users will be left without these new functions, since both will be included in Windows 10 for mobile, which will be available as an update for all computers running Windows Phone 8.1.
