Windows Phone grows in Germany
It's a new month, and that means we have new updated numbers from Kantar on smartphone market share, this time for January of 2015. What changes do you see in the participation of Windows Phone? We have ups and downs depending on which country we look at, but overall the outlook seems to be somewhat more positive than in previous months.
The market where Windows Phone is growing the most is France, reaching a share of 13%, representing an increase of 1, 4 percentage points compared to the previous month (December) and 3.4 points compared to the same period last year. There are also significant increases in Germany, where a share of 8.9% was reached, compared to 7.4% last month, and 6.8% last year, and in Australia, where it reached 8.7% of the market, which implies a growth of 3.6 points compared to January 2014 .
Meanwhile, the country where Windows Phone&39;s position worsens the most is Italy, a former stronghold>. In January 2014, the Redmond platform registered no less than a 17% market share here, even surpassing iOS, while a year later it registered 13.2%, which is not a negligible figure either, but it makes it lose the second place to Apple"
There are also significant setbacks in Spain: here the share of Windows drops to 2.5%, from 3.8% last month, and 5.3% in January 2014. And in the United Kingdom and Mexico a very positive evolution is not observed either.
Something that is important to mention regarding these figures is that a reduction in the share of Windows Phone does not necessarily imply that fewer phones are being soldwith this operating system. As we already saw in the IDC report from a couple of weeks ago (and as the latest Gartner data also shows), it's entirely possible that Windows smartphone sales are increasing, but at a slower rate than the market is increasing. of smartphones as a whole, which means that the share of the operating system is reduced.
