Microsoft expands the payment of applications through operators to Brazil
Table of contents:
Today Microsoft has taken an important step toward making Windows Phone an attractive environment for application developers. It is about the arrival of payment of applications through telephone accounts to 3 very important emerging markets: Brazil, India and China, through the operators Claro, Idea and China Mobile, respectively. And along with them, in the United States Verizon has joined the list of operators that support this form of payment.
This is important because broadens the potential market that paid app developers can access, and increases the chances ofmonetize creating applications for Windows Phone.
To give us an idea, more than 93% of adults in emerging countries do not have a credit card, according to figures from the World Bank . All of them are formerly excluded consumers who, thanks to paying a phone bill, can begin to access thousands of applications created by developers who, in turn, can now obtain increased income for their work
If we analyze the potential of telephone bill payment through figures, the magnitudes are surprising. China Mobile alone, one of the operators that Microsoft has included in the agreement, has more than 800 million customers, among which there are several million who use Windows Phone.
In the aggregate, Microsoft now has agreements with 81 operators in 46 markets, which add up to a total of more than 2.6 billion customers (46% of all telephone customers in the world ).Thanks to this, today Windows Phone has more coverage for mobile bill payments than any other platform, which is reflected in the fact that more than 60% of the Application purchases on Windows Phone are made through that means of payment.
Driving application development through emerging markets
In Microsoft they affirm that the perspectives of Windows Phone are positive and solid in part because "> Sales of applications in emerging markets have multiplied by 8 after the implementation of mobile bill payment
Microsoft wants to get ahead of this turn, by having a platform that is totally friendly to mobile transactions in those countries (and of course, also focusing on flooding the market with low-end Lumias, as they have done until now).
And at least as far as payment with mobile bills is concerned, the move has had positive results, since the sale of payment applications has multiplied by 8in those developing countries that have implemented this option (while in developed countries it has tripled, which is not negligible either).
"But Redmond&39;s efforts to boost the sale of applications do not stop there. They have also made sure to provide a quality local experience for the Windows Phone Store in each of the countries where it operates. To do this they select local applications by hand>"
All this translates into a greater attractiveness of Windows Phone as a development platform, attractiveness that thanks to the advent of universal applications It will also be extended to the Windows Store on PCs and tablets.
