How to activate Cortana if I don't live in the US
We know that today is a great day for all Windows Phone users because the Developer Preview version of Windows Phone 8.1 has been officially released, which, as we have already mentioned, can be downloaded by any user even without a developer subscription.
And among all the news that it includes, which we have detailed in due course, we will come across for the first time with Cortana, the Windows Phone personal assistant with whom we can carry out a lot of activities by means of useful voice commands. But be careful, as we know that said assistant is only available, for now, in the US. Here we tell you how to activate it even when you are outside that country.
Activating Cortana is too simple although it involves changing the region of the phone, and the language, the steps to follow are:
- First we go to the 'Settings' application, we go down to the 'Region' section and within the 'Country/Region' menu we select United States , and restart the phone.
- Then we go back to the 'Settings' application, go down to the 'Language' section, and there we press on 'English(United States) ' to display a menu and select 'Upload', after this we also restart the mobile.
- And that's it, we just go to the list of applications and we'll find the application 'Cortana', we enter it and We start with the configuration of the wizard.
Update:For those of you who don't see Cortana even after following the steps, go to Settings>Voice>Voice Language and select English (United States), and with this there should be no problems.
It is not known when we will have Cortana in Spanish but some rumors suggest that possibly by 2015 said language will be added. Even so, we will all be able to enjoy the BETA version in English for a few months with this small change of region and language on all our mobiles, and I say all because the assistant is available for any terminal that runs Windows Phone 8.1, even when it is low-end.
