Microsoft updates the Xbox One
Table of contents:
We are well on our way to the end of the first half of October and Microsoft has released the October update for the Xbox. Its console is updated with some of the news that we already knew, which were available to Insiders, now reaching the generality of users.
With a weight of 648 MB, at least on the Xbox One X which is the model I have at home, the October update is available from todayfor all Xbox One, Xbox One S, and Xbox One X consoles. Here's what's new when you update.
Support for Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos
Dolby Vision video support comes to the Xbox One. The console becomes one of the few compatible devices (which other than a Smart TV) with said format and thus accompanies Chromecast Ultra and Apple TV.
In this way, if you use content that supports this improvement, either on a UHD Blu-ray or through Netflix, one of the platforms that offers content under Dolby Vision, you will be able to appreciate this improvement if you have a compatible television.
In parallel comes support for object-based audio such as Dolby Atmos, a multichannel sound format based on objects from of movie theaters that promises to improve sound quality, although to appreciate it we are going to need to have a compatible sound system in the house.
Accessibility improvements
"Accessibility options have been expanded and improved, and now within Narrador> we can access new languages including Spanish, Portuguese, Polish, Swedish and Dutch ."
New avatars
One of the most anticipated is the one that refers to the new avatars for Xbox One. They needed an update, since at this point they still had a touch too childish. Now they are also more customizable, offering as a novelty the commitment to inclusivity: people with disabilities or a more sensitive group can now be represented.
This new look for avatars can be used in profiles, activity posts, and in the friends block on the home screen. In addition, to customize them a new store has been created to purchase items and customize them.
Alexa and Cortana
Now the Xbox One has support to work with Cortana and Alexa It was one of the bets that Microsoft had already shown and now the October update makes it a reality. Of course, for now Alexa is only available in the United States although it will reach more markets soon.
These are two different and complementary methods to be able to interact with the console through voice commands. Interacting with it to turn it off, on or access games and applications is now easier.
If you have an Xbox One, Xbox One S, or Xbox One X, you can now download the new October update. If you do not get the warning when turning it on, you can access Settings>"
