Xbox One debuts media player with September update packed with new features
We haven't finished August yet and Microsoft already has the Xbox One September update ready. In Redmond they didn't want to wait and have decided to publish a new update to their console's dashboard that brings with it a good handful of novelties, including one of the most desired by users: the multimedia player
The player comes in the form of a new application that will allow to play multimedia files from a memory or external hard drive connected to the USB portIn the future it will also be possible to play content from other devices through the local network thanks to the support for the DLNA protocol. Also in the future the video, audio and image formats supported by the player will increase. Although the list of supported formats is already extensive, for some popular ones like MKV or GIFs we will have to wait until the end of the year.
The rest of the new features in the September update include improvements in the Groups and SmartGlass applications Regarding the first, there have been improvements the options available to the group administrator and access to others has been facilitated for the rest of the members, showing more information about what each one is playing. In the case of SmartGlass, new functions are included for commenting and sharing from the Windows Phone, iOS and Android applications, in addition to adding the possibility of sending the television signal directly from the console (as long as we have the new digital tuner ).
With this new version of the Xbox One dashboard, we have also added the option to configure our console to turn on directly in television mode , a network usage monitor or the ability to save profile images in our OneDrive account. And there is still more, because, far from stopping there, Microsoft will take advantage of this update to extend some functions to more countries, such as the OneGuide television guide or the Xbox On voice command, which can finally be used in more countries, among which which are Spain and Mexico."
