Easter eggs are those surprises that some applications, operating systems, games... and in general, all kinds of software and hardware, sometimes hide, to surprise the user. And in the case of the new Chromium-based Edge, maybe the Surf game should be considered this way
And at this point we can think… a game in a browser? Nothing beats spending some time waiting or disconnecting with a casual game that Microsoft introduced in Edge starting with build 83.0.478.37 Titled Surf, the game required an active network connection, at least until now.
Surf offline
And is that if you want to spend a few minutes of fun, Surf no longer requires being connected to the network. Does your connection drop or you don't have access to the network at a certain time? You can spend those minutes of waiting playing a game of Surf.
"Inspired by the Windows title, SkiFree, to access Surf, the hidden game in Edge, just open your browser and type edge:/ in the address bar /surf. The game will be displayed on the screen immediately."
Among the possibilities and modalities, the title offers different modes:
- Endless Mode: It's all about sailing as far as you can while avoiding obstacles and the kraken. Mode can be changed through the game settings menu.
- Time Trial Mode: here you have to reach the end of the course as fast as you can and as in the previous one, you can change mode through the game settings menu.
- Zig Zag Mode: You have to navigate through as many doors as you can in a row. You can change modes through the game's settings menu.
- High Visibility Mode: High Visibility Mode highlights hit boxes around objects, making it easier to identify and Avoid obstacles in the water.
- Reduced Speed Mode: For users who prefer a more relaxed pace or who need additional time to perform those navigation movements, can enable the new reduced speed mode
The title offers no secrets and its development is very simpleIt is enough to slide on the surfboard with the arrow keys and the space bar as control methods and try to avoid the obstacles that appear on the screen while we collect items to improve our skills and increase our life.
The objective of Surf is to travel the longest distance possible, an objective that we have already seen in other legendary titles, such as the Crossy Road case.
Having access to Surf, was a demand from users, as William Devereux, senior program manager, comments, in a Microsoft Blog post. In addition, and along with the ability to play offline, Microsoft has added support for various controllers, including the Xbox Adaptive Controller. The game also supports gamepad haptic feedback (rumble) for a more immersive experience
