We feared it and Phil Spencer confirms it. Project Scorpio is going to cost more than the Xbox One S
Not because expected stops being news but friendly. And we are not deceived. No desktop console has had a low launch price, normally no less than 500 euros and the case of Project Scorpio was not going to be an exception. There is still time to get an idea of what awaits us, but what we can know is that it will not be cheap.
This confirmation has just been given by one of the visible heads within the Xbox scene, Phil Spencer, who has confirmed in an interview that no, that Project Scorpio (the name by which Microsoft's future console is now known) will not be cheaper than Xbox One S
It was to be expected and it is that for now we are (that indicates how little we know) in front of the most powerful console ever created, because inside we are going to find a Octa-Core Processor, Nearly 320GB/s Memory Bandwidth, Six Teraflops of Power, Native 4K Support in games and compatibility to make use of virtual reality. A few statements that clear the way a lot:
In addition Phil Spencer announced that Project Scorpio will almost certainly be backwards compatible with the same Xbox 360 titles that are on the list of Xbox One compatibility, so no Xbox user will be left unprotected.
Hopefully Project Scorpio will hit the markets around Christmas 2017, so there is still plenty of time to get more data. Also with Scorpio the Xbox One S will not end, since it is not called to replace it (so says Phil Spencer) and thus for a while both machines will coexist so that the users choose the one that best suits their needs and pocket. And to finish a summary of what we know so far about Project Scorpio:
- Eight CPU cores
- About 320GB/s memory bandwidth
- Six teraflops (TF) of GPU power
- 4K Game Support
- Virtual Reality Compatible
- Backwards compatible with current games
A console that promises to delight video game lovers and that many already say will be the rival to beat this year that is coming, so much so that it is already compared to the powerful PlayStation 4.
