When talking about the Internet of Things or IoT devices, we always think of devices that until now were oblivious to permanent connectivity. And yet we forget about one of the sectors that are also betting on connectivity and technology such as the textile sector.

Smart clothing is postulated as one of the trends that will grow the most in the future and in this sense manufacturers are giving their first steps in integrating technology into the clothes we will wear in the future. Either through developments, still very green, or with a patent like the one we are dealing with now, clothing wants to be more technological.

Connected Clothes

"

Microsoft would be interested in the smart clothing segment according to the patent that has just been published in MSPU. It refers to a smart shirt that is based on a technology called Electronically Functional Yarn (Electronically Functional Yarn)."

"

The operation of it can look a bit like science fiction or make us think of movies like Back to the Future>the thread on the shirt could be used to add different intelligent functions ."

Improvements that could be applied in very different areas, whether in leisure or sports, military... although we still don't have clear how it could benefit us, for example, a smart T-shirt. Since development is still very early, we have license to let our imaginations run wild and think of garments that will collect data from our physical activity or environment and act accordingly.

Let's imagine a garment that displays an illuminated area while detecting that we are exercising outdoors or that displays an alert for high levels of pollution. Connected textiles incorporate technology into our daily lives and they will do so almost without us realizing it.

For now it is a patent because connected and intelligent clothing still has a long way to go. As we always warn, when a patent is launched, it should not be interpreted with a subsequent forced launch of the product.

Preventing garments from being able to integrate the necessary technology into the fabrics without causing an excessive gain in weight or thickness or a loss of comfort are factors that still have to be overcome new developments to offer a competent product.
