Microsoft already offers support to developers to facilitate the creation of apps on dual-screen devices
Table of contents:
From the Microsoft event we attended a few weeks ago, the most striking aspects were precisely those related to two models that have not yet reached storesWe are talking about its two foldable dual-screen devices, the Surface Neo and the Surface Duo
We have to wait more than a year to see them become a reality, but while at Microsoft they want to start preparing the ground, since they have a lot of work to do. For this reason, they focus on notifying developers so that they can focus their efforts on applications that work on this new type of screen
Double screen, new apps
Keep in mind that Microsoft applications for these two new models must offer support for working on a folding screen made up of two panels. A behavior never seen up to now and it does not matter if it is an application based on Android or Windows.
And we must remember that finally from Redmond they have opened up to Android, which will be the operating system used to give life to the Surface Duo, while the SUrface Neo will opt for Windows 10X. And in both cases, the applications adapted to take advantage of the two screens will be essential to determine if the proposal works or not.
To aid in the creation of applications, Microsoft has decided to share information on how to develop applications for these dual-screen devices. And for this, it has made it clear that the Surface Duo will be able to run Android applications available in the Google Play Store while the Surface Neo will do the same with UWP and Win32 applications.
And in both cases there are a good number of apps on the market, but very few adapted to those models with dual screens, for which Microsoft, anticipating the time of its launch, recommends adapting them and for this recommends using the experience achieved with dual-screen PCs.
To this end, Microsoft is developing a common model layered on top of existing platform-specific tools and frameworks for Windows and Android. For developers for web applications, Microsoft will develop web standards and APIs to make it easier for these developers to take advantage of dual screen capabilities or features like the 360-degree hinge
In fact, even have provided an email address so that those interested in creating applications for these devices can receive more information. The email in question is [email protected].
