Windows 10 Pro prepares on PC to retire the NTFS system in professional environments
The NTFS storage system (New Technology File System) has been for 15 years the system of files created by Microsoft has accompanied us in the different versions of Windows. From the old Windows XP to the most recent Windows 10 in its latest builds.
A system that due to longevity is about to be retired and Redmond is considering replacing it with a more modern system and according to the times. A system that under the ReFS figures will be in charge of making us forget about NTFS.
But it will not be a process that will be carried out immediately and apparently the first recipients for the new system would be professional environmentsSomething that has been possible to know thanks to the discovery of three new versions of Windows 10 that are aimed at professional environments and servers. These new configurations respond to this classification:
- Windows 10 Pro for Advanced PCs
- Windows 10 Pro N for Advanced PCs
- Windows Server 2016 ServerRdsh
NFTS says goodbye. Say hello to ReFS
Three versions that would complete the ones we know so far and that complete a well-varied family with options for all areas. A family in which we find the following versions:
- Windows 10 Home
- Windows 10 Pro
- Windows 10 Education and Pro Education
- Windows 10 Enterprise and Enterprise LTSB
- Windows 10 Mobile and Mobile Enterprise
- Windows 10 IoT
- Windows 10 S
These new versions of Windows 10 Pro for Advanced PCs will offer a series of features focused on improving the performance of computers:
- WorkStation Oriented: Microsoft will optimize the operating system to improve performance when handling large amounts of information on workstations
- ReFS File System: ReFS is the successor to NTFS. A system optimized for handling large volumes of data while being compatible with NTFS.
- Faster when exchanging files: Improved the Windows 10 based file sharing protocol SMBDirect Pro by optimizing performance and decreasing resource consumption.
- More Hardware Supported: Microsoft is expanding support for workstations from the current 2 CPU limit to 4 physical CPUs and 6TB of RAM.
For now it is a version that will reach professional environments but surely it will make the leap sooner rather than later at all Windows versions. A change that has been set in motion thanks to the contributions and _feedback_ originated by the members of the Insider Program.
