The privacy of our data is the key and at Microsoft they want to be more transparent with the way they are collected
The privacy of our data is an aspect that we value more and more And it is because it has always been said that information is power Now, in these times, it is an assertion that makes more sense than ever thanks to the permanent connection in which we live thanks to mobile phones, computers and tablets.
In this sense the authorities try to control the use made of the data collected but this task is often very complicated to carry out. It is almost like trying to put doors to the field and that is why technology companies are always in the spotlight in this regard.Google, Apple, Facebook, Microsoft... there are many firms that have something to say in this regard and thus the Redmonds have been the last to make a move.
And the fact is that historically at Microsoft they have not been very prone to give details about the kind and type of information collected by Windows and sent to their servers. A secrecy that has led users and authorities from different countries in the European Union to have many doubts about the policy, in this case of the American company.
The EU considers that Windows 10 does not guarantee user privacy
Some doubts that ultimately do nothing but cloud the company's brand image, for which reason Microsoft has wanted to tackle the problem root offering information regarding the data collected by Windows among users. Thus, it has prepared and published a list with the diagnostic data collected at the Basic and Complete level.
A publication to try to convince the community authorities that the data collected does not contravene any norm or cause any harm to the user. And incidentally they defend that with the arrival of the Creators Update on April 11 this aspect, security and privacy, will even be improved.
To this end, Microsoft has announced what will be the ways in which the user will have access to the data that they can use and collect a device. Something that, for example, we have already seen in Google with Android and the policy of updates, permissions and data collected by the applications in Google Play.
In this way, with the Creators Updatenew privacy controls will arrive, being able to choose between Basic and Complete levelThe basic level refers to the data that the system collects and that is necessary to keep the Windows 10 computer up to date. A level at which, according to Microsoft, the information collected has been reduced by half. Regarding the Complete level, it seeks to collect information that allows offering a more personalized experience to the user.
In this sense, we see how the user can activate or deactivate the capture of said information simply by moving the button located next to the section in question. Sections that include aspects such as location, voice recognition... And it is that from the company they communicate that they want to allow access to that information so that we can review and eliminate data that they collect through the Microsoft privacy dashbaord.
It is about giving, or at least trying to, transparency to an exercise that has always aroused too much suspicion. And it is that although it may not seem like it, we are increasingly aware of the value of the data we provide. It is logical that free services have a price, but we must be consistent with the price we are willing to pay…
