A patent points to a Surface Phone with a fingerprint reader on the same screen

The amount of information that comes out regularly about the expected Surface Phone is surprising, especially when you consider that there is no for now no official data confirming its existence or development by Microsoft.

For now it's all rumors, leaks or, as in the case at hand, patent plans that go on the run and encourage the wait for a new phone so necessary for the Windows 10 Mobile ecosystem with which from Redmond they can finally scratch something decent in market share.

It could be Microsoft's last chance to aspire to something or it could be their grave, it all depends on how they act. And that is why all the indications point to the fact that if it materializes, the rumored Microsoft Surface Phone could be a very attractive terminal.

Redmonds could bet all or nothing with specifications like the fingerprint reader. And it is that according to a new patent registered by Microsoft, the Surface Phone could have a fingerprint reader integrated into the same screen.

A step beyond what we now find on the market, as the fingerprint readers are always located on a button, well under the screen (iPhone, Galaxy S7…) or on the back of the phone (Nexus 6P for example)

In this way the sensor would be located on the same screen, either LCD or OLED so that the start button below it or the rear one would be eliminated, gaining space for the screen or decreasing the thickness of the phone.

In addition, and always according to the patent, it would not be a standard system, since it would have a waveguide and a filter placed under the glass of the screen so that when you touch the screen a sensor located on one side of the glass would detect the folds of the fingerprint.

The patent is already there and it only remains to be seen if Microsoft will finally use it in any of its devices (in the case of the Surface Phone) and above all and most importantly, if this will finally come true or, on the contrary, it may suffer the same fate as the Lumia 750.
