Silvia Barbero: a Spaniard sneaks into the finalists of the Microsoft Imagine Cup 2016
Table of contents:
For a few years (2003), Microsoft has organized the so-called Imagine Cup, a competition on technology and innovation that offers students university students the possibility of “unleashing their creativity, passion and knowledge of technology to create applications and games, as well as solutions that can change the way we live”.
An interesting approach for a project whose final –which will take place from July 26 to 29- has included a Spanish woman. This is Silvia Barbero, who has achieved it with The Void, an initiative presented by Shooting Star Studios.
The finalist
Specifically, it is a 20-year-old girl who is studying computer engineering at the Autonomous University of Madrid, a girl who has been in charge of programming the game code and also designing the plot, the music and other visual parameters. This first one is based on a premise that is striking in this context: “the world is not perfect but that cannot stop us from getting to be happy”.
That is, what it simulates is a kind of mental representation of those who feel lost, disoriented and similar in the world that surrounds them. A place that has a very particular aspect and that seems to be drawn in pencil. The idea is that, during the game, we develop new skills that allow us to defeat our enemies (and problems that we encounter throughout our personal development).
The game, on the other hand, has notifications in the Activity Center and the Live Tile, and squeezes other functions offered by Windows 10 –such as sharing-. A proposal that, in short, will shortly compete against 8 other participants with the aim of obtaining a not inconsiderable prize: 50 thousand dollars to start the project and a private session with Satya Nadella himself.
