Microsoft puffs out its chest and boasts of Edge and its low energy consumption
When Windows 10 hit the markets, one of the innovations it brought was the disappearance of the mythical Internet Explorer and its replacement by a new batch browser such as Microsoft Edgeand since its launch it has been experiencing constant growth.
It was a necessary change, because Firefox first and then Chrome had eaten the toast to Explorer in an absolute way leaving its numbers of low usage minimum. And while it is true that Microsoft Edge did not start out in the best way, its constant growth has made it a more than interesting alternative for many users, something that makes Redmond stick out their chests showing off figures and numbers.
Microsoft Edge has been improving with successive updates so that they can stand up to the other two big browsers. It is also expected that with the arrival of the Anniversary Update, more improvements will arrive in the form of improved performance, the arrival of the expected extensions or less CPU and RAM consumption
For now one of the merits of Microsoft Edge is the energy consumption it performs on our machine, something that Microsoft boasts about aware of how important this section is when it comes to optimizing the performance of batteries in portable equipment.
Microsoft Edge consumes 70% less than Google Chrome
From Microsoft and in the words of Jason Weber they affirm that energy efficiency has been one of the objectives to be achieved by the company at the time to design Microsoft Edge, so much so that they defend that it is the browser with the lowest consumption, generating up to 70% less than Chrome.
And to demonstrate such numbers they show us some tests carried out in a laboratory (in a controlled environment, it must be said) with which to confirm Edge's bonanzas in terms of energy efficiency. And to demonstrate it, they have prepared a video against other browsers and graphics with which to support these statements.
This is how we see how the laptop that works with Microsoft Edge offers up to 7 hours and 22 minutes autonomy compared to 4 hours and 19 minutes from the computer using Chrome. In addition, in the same comparison, two other browsers appear, such as Opera and Firefox, which also offer a higher consumption than Microsoft Edge.
Some tests that together with the lower consumption, reveal a similar performance, always of course, in ideal conditions that are rarely meet in an open and functional environment.
However, what can be said clearly is that Edge has taken a giant step forward, which is also necessary compared to IE (Internet Explorer), with a good job from Microsoft. We will have to see what new features come with the Anniversary Update, which we are eager to receive.
