Windows Phone continues to be the fastest growing mobile system in Europe
Kantar Worldpanel already has last month's mobile sales statistics, and again there is good news for Windows Phone, at least initially. According to its analysts, Microsoft's mobile system is the fastest growing on an annual basis, maintaining a 10.1% share of sales during the three months ending January 2014.
The locomotive of this growth is, of course, the Lumia 520, the fourth best-selling phone in Britain. By country, Windows Phone grows more precisely in Great Britain (4.9 points in one year) and Spain (4.3 points). However, this growth in our country does not translate into large numbers: it only reaches a 5.3% share of sales, close to 7.2% of iOS but very far from the overwhelming dominance of Android with 86.6%.
The figures are not so good if we look at the last few months. As we already mentioned at the time, the last quarter was not very good for Windows Phone, and the numbers that Kantar shares in this regard corroborate it. In January, the sales share was 10.1%, 0.2 points less than the previous quarter.
"Is this seasonal or is Windows Phone stagnating? We have little data to confirm it In any case, it could be due to the proximity of Windows Phone 8.1 and the possible new models that Nokia would launch. It must also be taken into account that the latest flagship, the Lumia 1520, is a phablet that does not attract the same market sector as previous Finnish models."
Finally, Kantar's figures again affect the weakness of Windows Phone in the United States market Only 5% of sales were for the Microsoft operating system so far this quarter. Not a good result considering that, in the first three months of 2013, Windows Phone achieved 5.6% of sales. Maybe models like the Lumia Icon can achieve something, but being exclusive to one operator they have a hard time.
In general, the numbers are not bad but we are seeing that Windows Phone no longer grows as much. Windows Phone 8.1 should be able to give you a good share boost. A whole year without major updates is now taking its toll on Microsoft's system, so the next version has a lot to make up for that lost time.
