Build 2013: warming up engines
San Francisco, Howard Street, North Building of the Moscone Center, a huge billboard with the Microsoft and Build logos crowns the entrance. At the door, a figure with the word '//build/' points the way and directs attendees. In case anyone hasn't noticed yet, the Redmonds are about to host their biggest event of the year here: the Build 2013 Developer Conference
"Once inside we find an immense hall that in a matter of hours will receive an avalanche of developers and media from all over the world. They all have three intense days of presentations and conferences ahead of them that will place downtown San Francisco in the spotlight of the Windows universe."
The Californian city is not virgin territory for Microsoft. The Moscone Center has already lived through some of the most important PDCs of the 90s, such as the one in 1992, which announced the imminent arrival of Windows 95, or the PDC in 1996, a living example of Microsoft's dominance during the decade. After some time away from the city of the Golden Gate, those from Redmond have decided to return to a mythical convention center where there are in terms of technological presentations .
This time, except for a major surprise, it seems that Windows 8.1 will take center stage, the long-awaited update to Windows 8. Of course It is not just any update. It is enough to see the importance that Microsoft has given it and the months of rumors about its content to realize that we are facing a new step in the history of the operating system. And it is that, more than ever, this year Build is written with B for Blue.
But Windows 8.1 isn't the only thing out there these days. In Build all Microsoft products and services are present, with sessions on practically each of them: Windows Phone, Windows Azure, Kinect for Windows, etc. Traditional Microsoft partners will not be missing from the event, such as some of the most important OEMs that will also be present at the event: Acer, Lenovo, HP, Dell, and even Nokia in the Windows Phone section.
But beyond media presentations and publicity stands, Build is still an event for developers, and 90% of the event is dedicated to them the sessions. From new tools to talks turned into authentic tutorials, going through demonstrations of the development of some applications, which we hope to see soon on our Windows and Windows Phone. Not forgetting the traditional Hackathon, where the objective is to develop the best possible application in the three days that the event lasts.
It's midnight in San Francisco. The journalists and developers who flood the downtown hotels will be going to sleep soon, if not already. For some of us the journey has been long and it is time to regain strength before what is to come. In nine hours the inaugural conference will begin Stay tuned.
