AMD will release two patches to correct the loss of performance in Windows 11 and while Patch Tuesday has made the situation worse
Table of contents:
A few days ago we learned how the arrival of Windows 11 began to cause the first problems, in this case poor performance that affected computers that use an AMD Ryzen processor. A decrease in the operation that we now know, can be corrected next week
And it is that users informed both Microsoft and AMD that after installing Windows 11 their computers offered lower performance than usual. A high latency and problems with memory that have caused AMD to put the batteries and work on the corresponding patches that solve the problem
Two updates to fix the bug
D fact, it was the same company AMD that confirmed the news. Ryzen processors were seeing their performance diminish. There could be cases in which the drop was up to 15%.
The issue was caused by L3 cache latency, which could triple which could cause 3-5% lower performancein most affected applications.
These computers also experience problems with the so-called preferred core (preferred core), which aims to switch threads to the latest core fast of a processor. A performance drop that could be as much as 10-15% in some games."
With these data on the table, AMD was quick to react and a statement appeared on Reddit in a thread stating that will release two updates to correct these bugs .
The first one will arrive on October 19 and will focus on fixing the bugs that affect the L3 cache. Then there will be another update, on October 21st, focused on fixing the problem with preferred kernels.
"This update should appear on computers with Ryzen processors through Windows Update inside Updates and security."
Patch Tuesday compounds bugs
And the fact is that the problem has also worsened with the arrival of Patch Tuesday. From TechPowerUp they have measured the latency of the L3 cache of the Ryzen 7 2700X processor after the update on October 12. The figure obtained has reached 31.9 ns which far exceeds the 17 ns of Windows 11 in the original launch and let alone 10 ns with Windows 10.
We will have to wait to find out if AMD finally launches the two patches next week that correct a situation in which it seems to be the only affected brand, since the teams with intel they are not encountering any type of problem as far as performance is concerned.
