Yesterday we saw how Microsoft released a patch to address the Print Nightmare vulnerability that affected versions of Windows starting with Windows 7. A patch to cover a security gap in the Print Spooler service that it appears to be causing problems with some Zebra brand printers"

Specifically, the patch that is causing problems is the one for Windows 10, the one with the number KB5004945. An optional update that is causing complaints from some users in forums and social networks when they experience different failures when using their printers.

Printers Crashing

The KB5004945 patch was released on July 6 to fix the “Print Nightmare” vulnerability, but it seems to be causing problems. In Bleeping Computer they echo the complaints of users who use Zebra brand printers that are now being blocked.

The patch seems to affect the Print Spooler Service and print jobs disappear without being printed, as claimed by a user in the forums of the brand. In this case they talk about the Zebra LP 2844, but also about another model like the ZQ530 or the ZD410.

In this other thread they refer to a total of 15 printers that have stopped working:

Complaints on Reddit or Twitter could not be missing, where again Zebra is the affected brand and where reference is made to a response by Zebra support on who claim that this update is causing problems with various printer models

These are the Zebra printer models that are being affected by the patch LP 2844, ZT220, ZD410, ZD500, ZD620, ZT230, ZT410 and ZT420. In addition, the company has issued a statement in which they state that more brands are affected and that Microsoft is already working on a solution in this regard.

For now, it seems that the only step to fix printing problems is to manually uninstall the cumulative update.
