A Windows 11 SE appears on the scene and we don't know if it could be a Windows in safe mode or the materialization of Cloud PC
Table of contents:
"We are waiting for the arrival of the 24th to find out what Microsoft&39;s plans are and if it finally presents Windows 11. And now, in addition to Windows 11 whose ISO has been leaked, images have allegedly appeared leaked from a mysterious edition of Windows 11 SEv."
"Remember that Windows 11, at least the filtered ISO, contains several versions such as Pro, Home, Education and derivatives. The presence of a Windows 11 SE edition is a mystery, but nothing strange if we remember that Microsoft already used this terminology in the past"
The acronym SE is a mystery
We have to travel back to the year 98, a moment in which Microsoft launched Windows 98 SE, acronyms that referred to the Second Edition , as it was an update to Windows 98 that had already been on the market for some time.
It was the Twitter user @fakirmeditation who discovered a series of striking aspects of the leaked version of Windows 11:
- Requires that users have an online account.
- Does not allow installing apps from the Microsoft Store.
- Your Settings area is not the same as the 'general' version of Windows 11.
The fact of not being able to access applications from the Microsoft Store is really striking, since it would leave the use of the operating system very limited Remember What Windows 10 S did was the opposite, limiting the installation of applications only to the Microsoft Store... and this case is the other way around.
Two hypotheses
There are two theories about what those letters can mean SE, ruling out a second edition. It can be a cloud-based Windows or a security-enhanced Windows.
This has led us to wonder if it could be a cloud-based version of Windows, nothing strange if we remember how news related to Cloud PC and Windows 10 Cloud Edition, a kind of Windows 10 that ran on the Windows Virtual Desktop cloud platform.
For now there is no information in this regard beyond the rumors spread by some US media stating that Windows 11 SE would be that cloud versionof the Microsoft operating system.
The other possibility is that it is a hardened version of Windows, similar to Windows 10 S, intended to compete with Chrome OS in educational environmentsA Windows with limited system configurations to strengthen its security, an idea confirmed on Twitter by ZDNet's Mary Jo Foley.
