Windows 10 October 2018 Update is updated again days after the end of Microsoft support
Table of contents:
A few days ago we saw how Microsoft ceased support for Windows 10 in version 1089 or what is the same, for Windows 10 October 2018 Update. This version, one of the ones that has given the American company the most problems recently, is back in the news by receiving a new update despite being out of the deadline for receiving updates
And it is that Microsoft has released Build 177.63.1579 (with patch KB4594442) for Windows 10 October 2018 Update, a build that comes to correct errors and security problems and that you will not be able to find by accessing Windows Update, the usual method for downloading updates.
Fixed Issues
The update focuses on a single point, which is described on the Microsoft support page. And along with it, a series of improvements and bug fixes that we will now review.
- Updates an issue that could cause Kerberos authentication and ticket renewal issues related to CVE-2020-17049 implementation.
- Fixes issues with Kerberos authentication related to the PerformTicketSignature registry subkey value in CVE-2020-17049 , which was part of of the Windows November 10, 2020 Update. The following issues can occur on read-write-only domain controllers (DCs):
- Kerberos service tickets and ticket granting tickets (TGTs) might not be renewed for non-Windows Kerberos clients when PerformTicketSignature is set to 1 (the default value).
- Service to Front-end (S4U) scenarios such as scheduled tasks, clustering, and services for line-of-business applications can fail for all clients when PerformTicketSignature is set to 0.
- S4UProxy delegation fails during ticket referral in cross-domain scenarios if DCs in intermediate domains are updated inconsistently and PerformTicketSignature is set to 1.
Known Issues
"The following issue may occur after installing patch KB4493509Devices with some Asian language packs installed may receive the error 0x800f0982 - PSFX E MATCHING COMPONENT NOT_FOUND. To solve it and while Microsoft works on a corrective patch, they propose these solutions:"
- Uninstall and reinstall any recently added language packs. For instructions, see Manage input and display language settings in Windows 10. "
- Select Check for updates and install the April 2019 cumulative update."
- If reinstalling the language pack does not mitigate the problem, restart the PC as follows: "
- Go to application Settings > Recovery. " "
- Select Start at option Reset PC Recovery ." "
- Select Keep my files."
In addition, and as we already warned yesterday, Microsoft alerts about the temporary interruption in the deployment of updates, due to minimal operations during the holidays and the upcoming western new year. So there will be no pre-releases for December 2020, resuming monthly service with January 2021 security releases.
This build is not available in the usual way by Windows Update and if you want to update you will have to install it manually by accessing this link to find the one for you in the Microsoft Update Catalog .
