How to install security patches and optional updates in Windows 10
Table of contents:
A few days ago we saw how Microsoft was going to interrupt the arrival of driver updates due to less activity during the Christmas period. Patches that arrive independently as if they were special updates. And both these patches and the aforementioned updates involve an installation process that we are going to explain now
"To download a security patch the process is very simple, but to access the optional Updates you have to click a couple more timesto enter and mark the patches that we want to install, but don&39;t worry, it&39;s not a complicated process."
Install security patches
Windows security patches and driver updates are files released with the goal of fixing bugs and covering vulnerabilities discovered in the operating system, either due to faulty updates or discovered threats.
"Security patches are released more or less periodically (we already know Patch Tuesday) as a cumulative update on the that various failures and bugs are corrected. Some patches that are installed as follows."
The first step is none other than accessing the Windows menu Settings by clicking on the gear-shaped icon that we find below on the left, in the Windows 10 start menu."
"Once inside the menu Settings we must look for the section Update and security and when pressing the corresponding menu opens, we select the option Windows Update in the left sidebar."
We will see how already available updates can appear or if this is not the case, they can appear just by clicking on the button Search for updatesThe system locates if there is something pending and we just have to click on Install now and follow the process."
The update will take a few minutes and when it's done, you'll need to restart your computer to apply the changes.
Optional updates
"These are the usual updates and patches, but if you look closely, you will see that under that section there is another called Optional Updates In this section Those patches for the drivers and components of our equipment that we must install manually are included."
If it appears, it is because we have pending updates. Once we access, we can check the available ones and select the ones we want to install. The process does not require a reboot, unlike security patches, and is faster
