With Windows 10 2004
Table of contents:
We are very close to seeing how Windows 10 in version 2004 becomes a reality. We've already seen some of the improvements coming with the Windows 10 May 2020 Update, but we still have a lot of secrets and lesser known things to discover.
This is the case of this function that returns to Windows 10 after having been present in Windows 7 and seeing how it was eliminated with the arrival of Windows 8.1. This is the possibility to send audio via Bluetooth from an external source, in the case of a mobile phone, and play it on the computer's speakers.

And with Windows 10 the possibility returns allows the user to stream locally thanks to the Bluetooth connection and so on send music from your phone to your computer speakers. This is due to support for the A2DP Bluetooth receiver, a support that was still present but with limited capabilities by Microsoft.
A2DP, an acronym for Advanced Audio Distribution Profile and is the Bluetooth stereo profile that defines the stereo sound quality that can be be sent from one device to another via a Bluetooth connection. A2DP is compatible with most audio compression codecs and allows music quality similar to that found in a 256kbit/s MP3 song. It is one of the most common profiles that we can find on the market. Each one of them offers a series of functions and also determines the quality of sound that we can obtain.
In this sense, both source and receiver must be compatible with the same profiles in order to use them. These are the main Bluetooth profiles:
- A2DP: the most widespread, it is the main one used to transmit audio over BT connectivity and is based on SBC compression algorithms audio.
- AVRCP - the profile intended for remote control of various audio playback functions.
- HFP: This profile, as we will see later, is necessary to be able to use a loudspeaker as hands-free and make/receive calls from our smartphone.
- HSP: It is the most used to receive audio content in headphones.
- aptX: Similar to A2DP, but capable of avoiding the power and bandwidth limitations that A2DP does.
Now, with the release of Windows 10 2004, the ability to enable Bluetooth A2DP receiver mode returns and actually appears that way in a support document discovered by Windows Latest.
Microsoft will allow you to use the PC and its speakers or connected headphones, as a speaker, through which broadcast audio sent from an external source .
This is a functionality that by default will arrive disabled and the appropriate applications will be in charge of activating them when necessary to receive remote audio transmissions. Therefore, it remains in the hands of the developers, to be able to take advantage of this new option.
