Microsoft announces enhancements coming to Windows Virtual Desktop in May to improve usability and security
Table of contents:
Windows Virtual Desktop is an Azure-based service that aims to deliver a fully virtualized, multi-user Windows 10 experience. Presented at Ignite 2019, it is a method to run Windows 10 in the cloud, without having to have a local installation on our computer.
Again the potential of Azure, which this time allows for the virtualized operating system and which was also prepared for Office 365 ProPlus. A service, the virtualization of applications and desktops running on Azure that is now preparing to receive an update
Interface and security improvements
With multi-session access to Windows 10, optimized for Office 365 ProPlus, and support for Remote Desktop Services (RDS) environments, Windows Virtual Desktop receives targeted security enhancements. Windows Virtual Desktop features will be coming in May 2020
Among the enhancements Microsoft enhances the WVD administration experience by allowing users to configure host pools, manage applications and desktops, and assign users from the portal. The use of Microsoft Teams in WVD is enhanced with a process called audio/video redirection (AV redirection) which will significantly reduce latency in conversations.
When it comes to security, adds new options for where to store service data to meet your compliance needs and regulations.Release of support for distributed service databases across Azure regions for data residency compliance and regulatory needs: Service metadata can be distributed across the US and Europe, with additional regions coming soon.
In addition, Microsoft announced that Windows Virtual Desktop will feature reverse connect technology and FSLogix profile containers Reverse connect reduces the chances of being attacked by running a virtual machine (VM) without keeping the input ports open. Profile containers provide a solution to quickly manage virtual profiles in unsecured environments while keeping them protected through your organization's security settings.
Windows Virtual Desktop debuts a new interface integrated directly into the Azure Portal. You can use this graphical interface to perform key tasks faster and more efficiently, such as deploying and managing virtual desktops and applications, assigning users, and performing integrated monitoring and diagnostics. Here are some other improvements to come:
- Ability to add user groups to Windows virtual desktop using Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) groups .
- Support for static or dynamic conditional access policies.
- Support for mandatory multi-factor authentication (MFA).
- Integration of Windows Virtual Desktop with Azure role-based access control (RBAC) and analytics for greater administrative control over user permissions.
- Ability to choose the geography in which you want to store your service's metadata for the best possible regulatory compliance and performance.
We are facing a series of very interesting solutions and improvements now that a large part of the users depend on the cloud for their work and need of more functional and secure environments in which to carry out their functions.
