From May all supported versions of Windows will receive only security updates: the optional ones are parked
Table of contents:
Yesterday we saw how Microsoft began to implement measures as a consequence of COVID-19, measures that in this case affected Office users 365. Victims of the global pandemic, companies are adopting measures to avoid Internet saturation, and this despite the fact that there are opinions that affirm that such actions are not necessary.
The truth is that yesterday was the first move by Microsoft, but it is not the only one. Now Microsoft has decided to set aside non-essential updates and has announced that the optional updates it releases for its operating system will no longer be available from May to focus only on security updates.
Focused on what's important
For the company, temporarily putting aside optional updates to focus on security updates is a logical move: maximizing resource utilizationAll versions of Windows and Windows Server that are still supported (Windows 7, for example, is now out of the equation) will be affected by this measure.
What is striking is that this is not a measure that is applied with immediate effect, as will not come into effect until May , which means that the month of April will follow the usual course as far as optional updates are concerned. Many of these are already scheduled and this may be the reason for setting the start of the measure in May.
Starting in May, we will only receive security updates on our computers that guarantee protection against threats and block security breaches patched security. This is Microsoft's statement on its website:
"When referring to C and D updates in Windows, the company makes mention to the type of updates based on the scale at which they are locatedThus they distinguish three levels (B, C and D) depending on their importance. While the type B would be the ones that are released in Patch Tuesday>"
In this way, April will be the last month, for now, in which we will have different updates for Windows that are not essential. From May, the optional ones remain parked, it is to be expected until the COVID-19 crisis passes.
