A study establishes that Windows 10 is more secure against vulnerabilities than Linux
Windows has always had a cross behind it: it is an insecure operating system, vulnerable to external threats, especially when compared to macOS. In this sense, it is striking that a study warns that, despite popular belief, Windows 10 is more secure than other operating systems
Comparing Windows 10 with macOS, Android, Linux, Ubuntu... and the behavior of the platform, over the last 10 years and exclusively in 2019. The study, the work of the National Institute of Standards and Technology's National Vulnerability Database, states that Windows 10 is less vulnerable to external threats compared to Android and Linux.
In the last 10 years, the number of vulnerabilities has been fewer in Windows 10 compared to those received in Android and Linux Focusing on 2019, vulnerabilities in Android reach 414 cases, followed by 360 suffered by Debian Linux while Windows 10 is slightly below with 357 cases.
These figures refer to 2019, since the figures of the last 10 years leave Debian Linux in a bad place with 3,067 vulnerabilities . Behind, Android, with 2,563 cases, Linux kernel with 2,357 and macOS X with 2,212 cases. Windows 10 suffered a total of 1,111 crashes.
These figures refer to Windows 10, since this report also includes the security breaches suffered by companies and in this sense , Microsoft ranks first with 6.814 failures, followed by Oracle with 6,115 failures and IBM with 4,679. Logical when Microsoft is one of the firms with the largest number of products on the market, which in turn means that it has fewer threats per product. Microsoft has 12.9 vulnerabilities per product while Linux suffers 139.4 or Apple 37.9.
In turn, the most dangerous applications have been studied and Adobe Flash Player tops the list, followed by Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office .
It seems that with Windows 10, an operating system that emerged in 2015, Microsoft is achieving good results when it comes to protection against external threats. Perhaps the main threat to Windows 10 lies in Microsoft's own updates and the failures they can cause.
