Another bug seems to affect Windows 7

In mid-January Microsoft ended support for Windows 7 (it did so in parallel with Windows 10 Mobile, Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2). That means Microsoft's popular operating system would be outdated and unprotected without updates that could correct or protect users against failures

We soon saw how Microsoft would have work ahead of it: first due to an error that transformed the wallpaper into a black one and now with another error, this one more important. A bug that prevents users from shutting down or restarting their computer running Windows 7.

Unable to shut down or restart computer

It's good that Microsoft tries to jump to Windows 10, but for many this situation already takes on surreal overtones. And it is that support for Windows 7 has ceased and began to appear more problems than in recent weeks for Windows 7, an operating system still present in millions and teams.

Now users are complaining about a new bug that prevents them from shutting down or restarting their computers. Technology forums are the places where the affected express their discontent and in turn the same place where solutions appear. Thus, different solutions appear on Reddit in the absence of Microsoft ruling on the matter.

The first of the proposed solutions appears in this link and details these steps to follow:

  • Create another admin account.
  • Login to that account or another administrator account already created on the computer
  • Then log in again to the default administrator account.
  • Shut down or restart normally.
"

It is one of the solutions, but not the only one. This is the case of the one offered by the antivirus manufacturer Quick Heal and detailed on ZDNet. According to this company, the error could have been caused by problems with UAC (User Account Control), a system that came with Windows Vista with the goal of improving Windows security by preventing a potentially malicious infected application from making changes to the system. This is apparently the most permanent solution, although it is not yet official or supported by Microsoft:"

  • Press the Windows key combination + R to open the Run window.
  • "
  • Write gpedit.msc>" "
  • In the Group Policy Editor window, go to Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > Security Options ."
  • "
  • In the right pane of the Security Options option, locate and double-click Control User Accounts: Run All Administrators in Administrator Approval Mode."
  • "In the new window, select Activate."
  • "
  • Reopen the Run window, but this time type gpupdate / force>"
  • Reboot or shutdown the system normally.

Microsoft has not yet issued an official statement and we are waiting to see if the company finally decides to release a patch security, another one, once they have ceased support for Windows 7, or now yes, they slowly let their operating system die.
