Windows 10X could adopt a Sandbox-like solution to run Win32 applications
Table of contents:
Windows 10X is called to be the next step in terms of operating systems It is a version of the operating system of Microsoft designed to be used with the new type of equipment that the American firm plans to launch, if there is no change of loaves, at Christmas 2020. We are talking, of course, about the Surface Neo and the Surface Duo.
There are still many months left until the launch date but little by little we are learning some details and characteristics of a version of Windows that must adapt to the demands that the computers will impose with double folding screenWe now know that Win32 applications and the safe environment, Windows Sandbox, will have their place in Windows 10X.

It was initially speculated that Windows 10X would offer support for Windows UWP apps. This remarkably limited the usability of an operating system that has its forte in the number of applications it has, although the vast majority are of the Win32 type .
Now we've learned through a leak, that Windows 10X will support the use of Win32 applications and run them in a secure environment so as not to jeopardize the integrity of the system. In this case, we are talking about something very similar to Windows Sandbox.
WindowsLatest discovered a LinkedIn job posting where Microsoft&39;s Azure Core OS Kernel team is working alongside the Windows team to develop Containers. These containers would be reserved spaces in which to run Win32 applications"
These classic format applications would be available in the Microsoft Store, but could also be downloaded from third-party developers' pages.
Already in May, when Windows 10X still did not have a defined name, we saw how Microsoft considered the development of Windows Sandbox key for troubleshoot compatibility of the new operating system with Win32 applications.
"Windows Sandbox is partly reminiscent of virtual environments. It is a lightweight desktop environment designed and developed so that the user can run applications safely in an isolated environment It is a function that is currently only available on Windows 10 Pro or Enterprise, and which is excluded from the Home version. In this way, no change that we make will be applied to the main operating system and without fear of a Trojan or virus that could affect our equipment. And Containers would look to be something very similar."
The goal is for Windows 10X to have a space reserved for running this type of application and thus not put the integrity of the operating system at risk. A set of containers or sections that would also be compatible with the classic Windows security measures, such as Windows Defender.
