Microsoft explains on its support page how to go back if you have mistakenly updated your device with Build 18947
Table of contents:
A rather striking event took place a few days ago. Microsoft mistakenly released a build that some users echoed: it was Build 18947. The problem is that this build was intended for internal use and at no time should it have been made public.
A compilation in the Insider Program usually offers quite a few bugs, since it has not been sufficiently tested. Let's therefore imagine how green a version of the operating system can be that has not yet reached that distribution phase.Due to the number of failures that it can offer and seeing that it has been installed on computers where it should not, Microsoft has released a guide to reverse the situation.
Building internally is one more step in the development of the Windows 10 20H1 branch. A build that comes with a large number of new features but also with many errors And to help those who have installed it on their computers, they have prepared a guide on the support page.
This is Microsoft's statement:
Steps to follow
First of all we can check if we have the current version, build 18947. For this, these are the steps that must be followed continue:
- "Click Start"
- "Write WINVER and execute it"
This will bring up a resulting window showing which build number is installed on the device.
In the event that those affected have not yet installed it and it appears as pending, Microsoft advises delaying the installation process for 7 days, so that this period of time should eliminate the compilation of the equipment affected.
If, on the other hand, it has already been installed, the support website offers the steps to follow to go back. Note that in this case there is a time limit of ten days after installing build 18947 to complete the rollback process before losing the ability to do so. A period that may be less if Storage Sense is enabled. These are the steps to follow:
-
"
- Click on Start." "
- Enter the menu Settings using the gear icon." "
- Search for section Updates and Security."
- "Select the Recovery option." "
- Within Go back to earlier versions of Windows 10, select Get started."
From here you have to complete the steps that appear on the screen
-
"
- To the first question, Why are you coming back?you must select For another reason ."
- Under “Tell us more” write 18947 and click on next "
- In the question Check for updates? we mark No, thanks ."
- There will be two more screens with information to review. After reading them, click Next to continue. "
- On the last screen, we select Go Back to Previous Build to start the restore process."
Leaving aside the errors that it presents, this compilation arrives loaded with new features and so for example Windows 10 sports a completely new start menupowerfully attention-grabbing. Along with this improvement on an aesthetic level, it also houses improvements in operation... all new features that cannot hide the bugs present.
