We've just passed halfway through the week and here's another new Microsoft Build. A compilation intended in this case for users of the fast ring within the Insider Program that about the improvements that will arrive in the spring update
Build 18305 is included within the 19H1 branch and offers a large number of improvements and novelties among which the presence of Windows Sandbox that we talked about yesterday and Office as one more app.
Windows Sandbox
We started strong with the main novelty. As we already said yesterday, it is an isolated desktop environment where you can run unreliable software without the fear that it may impair the performance of our operating system and therefore our device. Once we close Windows Sandbox all the modifications made disappear and everything remains as it was
Windows Sandbox is a kind of virtual machine that relies on Microsoft&39;s hypervisor to run a separate kernel that isolates the Windows Sandbox from the host. To install Windows Sandbox, we must go to the route Settings> Applications> Applications and features> Programs and features > Activate or deactivate Windows features and Activate Windows Sandbox"
Windows Sandbox is in full development, so it has a number of bugs to be aware of:
- When Windows Sandbox is first installed and at every service event, it will run a setup process that causes increased CPU and disk activity for about a minute.
- When opening the Start Menu in Windows Sandbox we can find a slight lag in the opening and that some Start Menu applications will not run.
- The time zone is out of sync between Windows Sandbox and the host.
- Windows Sandbox does not support applications that require a restart.
- Microsoft Store apps are not compatible with Windows Sandbox.
- Windows Sandbox does not support high-dpi displays.
- Windows Sandbox does not fully support multi-monitor setups.
Simplified Startup Layout
"The Start Menu has been redesigned, now with a cleaner appearance in which a column with the top level tiles stands out reduced. The innovations are appreciated just by starting Windows 10 for the first time."
Added additional improvements when uninstalling apps from the inbox and a new method to easily delete a folder or group of tiles. Of course, they warn that this design will not appear when updating to this Build from a current compilation.
Office App
This Build is used to present the new Office application with which to manage all our files and access to all the programs of the office suite. It is a free app that can be used both with Office 365 and with the 2016 or 2019 versions of the suite It is the successor to the My Office application that allows you to manage the subscription and also shows you recent documents.
Through the Office app we can control and manage all our files in a unified way, which will be stored in a single place. In addition, quick access to each of the office suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint...) is now offered, as well as others such as OneDrive or Skype.
Refreshed clipboard history
Clipboard history interface has been updated, the option to save multiple clipboard items for later use. Now the use of space has been optimized so that when we use text the height of each entry is reduced and, therefore, they give access to more entries without having to scroll.
Security enhancements
The experience when accessing protection history in Windows Security has been improved. It presents a renewed design that, although it still shows the detections of Windows Defender Antivirus, now it does so in a more detailed and easier to understand Possible threats and actions to take out are now more defined.
It is now allowed that even when performing an offline scan in Windows Defender, any detections you make will now also show up in history . All information is displayed more clearly.
"Added tamper protection, which is now a new setting in Windows Defender Antivirus. This feature provides additional protections against changes to key security features, including limiting changes that are not made directly through the Windows security application. These enhancements are located in the path Windows Security > Virus and threat protection >Virus and threat protection settings"
Best use of Kaomoji
The typing method that allows you to create faces or expressions with letters is now improved. The system for creating faces using only text sees sections for punctuation, currency, geometry, mathematics, Latin, and language symbols arrive. These follow a system similar to that of mobile keyboards, so there is a recent tab that will grow with the latest models used
Login improvement
Announced support for Set up and sign in to Windows with a phone number in a way that removes the use of the password. Just have a Microsoft account and our associated phone number. Now you can use an SMS code to log in and set up your account in Windows 10.
This system can coexist with Windows Hello Face, Fingerprint sensor or a PIN to log in to Windows 10. They also offer information to create a phone number account without password.
- If you already have an account you must go to Settings > Accounts > Family and other users > ?Add another person to this PC?.
- Lock the device and select your phone number account at the Windows login screen.
- "Since the account does not have a password, we must select Sign-in Options and _click_ the Alternate PIN Tile and then Sign In."
- We must go to web login and Windows Hello configuration.
- Now you can enjoy the benefits of signing in to Windows with our password-free phone number account.
If we don't already have a phone number account without a password, we can use a mobile application like Word to create it. We simply have to enter Word and register with our phone number in “Log in or register for free”.
"If we use a PIN on the other hand, a new Windows Hello PIN reset experience has been createdThis now offers the same appearance as when logging into the web. This can be tested by _clicking_ I forgot my PIN when signing in to Windows with a PIN."
Improved Configuration Page
Makes it easier to finish Windows setup by improving access to some of the most used settings. The new Settings home page now has a header at the top that provides access to features like signing in and managing your Microsoft account. Incidentally, a quick view of the system status is added, making it easier to check on the possible updates available.
Browser improvements and more
"Added a new default date format in File Explorer. Under the name Friendly Dates, a custom setting of the displayed date will be offered. Of course, this option will not appear for all users."
In addition, shadows are back again in dialogs and menus after being removed due to some performance issues.
