In the middle of the week and we are talking about updates again, this time without having to do with the Windows 10 October 2018 Update, a version that we are still waiting for. The 19H1 branch is once again the protagonist in the latest build released by Microsoft, a compilation loaded with improvements.
This is the Build 18277 that corresponds to the 19H1 development branch, which should materialize in the update that we would see arrive probably in spring. An update that is now available to all users who are part of the Windows Insider Program within the Fast Ring.
Only for insiders
This Build comes with some very interesting new functions among which the commitment they make to give more prominence to the notification center stands out with improvements in notifications, adding new emojis or improving the performance of Windows Defender Application Guard. The Build announcement was made as usual by Dona Sarkar on Twitter.
Focus Assist Improvements
Microsoft wants us to have it easier if we need to focus on work and that's why they launched the Concentration Assistant. A utility that looks for that notifications don't interrupt our work, or that they simply don't appear at certain times when we need to concentrate
Now with this Build it is improved, by adding a new option in the Concentration Wizard when we are using full screen mode without that for this we have to return to screen sharing mode.
Notification Center Improvements
Now we can control the brightness from the notification center using a slider instead of using the traditional method. In addition, the organization has been improved, since it is now possible to drag the quick action buttons and even delete them.
New emojis
Emojis have been redesigned, which are available for use through the emoji panel with the key combination WIN + V.
DPI Improvements
Blurry apps are now fixed without us having to see the “Fix blurry apps” prompt on the screen. Now the system acts autonomously.
Windows Defender Application Guard
Added a new shortcut that allows users to manage access to their camera and microphone while browsing with Application Guard for Microsoft Edge. To access this improvement we must go to the route Settings > Privacy > Microphone and settings > Privacy > Camera
Cortana and Alexa
An improvement designed for the United States, where Cortana and Alexa can already interact. Now they launch a survey to improve the integration of both assistants. This is the survey.
Other improvements
- Fixed bug causing WSL to not work on build 18272.
- Fixed bug that caused text to not render on the screen if it had a large number of OTF fonts or if the OTF fonts supported the East Asian Extended Character Set.
- Task View no longer shows + button in New Desktop after creating 2 virtual desktops.
- Fixed bug that caused the timeline to crash explorer.exe if the ALT + F4 key combination was used while it was visible.
- Fixed a bug that affected the Start menu in recent builds when pinning, unpinning, or uninstalling apps.
- The expected context menu now appears after right-clicking on a folder in File Explorer from a network location.
- Fixed an issue that caused the Settings home page to not show the visible scrollbar in recent builds if the window was small enough to need it.
- The icon used to identify the Region page in Settings is updated.
- "Fixed a bug that caused Setup to fail on recent builds when accessing login settings."
- Settings no longer crashes if typing in the search box with the built-in writing pad and changing languages within the pane.
- Fixed a bug that caused video playback to unexpectedly show some frames in the wrong orientation when maximizing the window after changing the screen orientation.
- The touch keyboard feature to enter a period after two quick taps on the space bar has been disabled.
- Improved the usability of pressing the WIN + Shift + S key combination for snippets.
- Far Manager now does not offer a pause during a long running command like ?dir
- Fixed a bug that caused Windows applications to run from WSL via interop.
- Fixed an issue that caused a ?startup? from the command prompt in the previous build with an access denied error.
- Fixed an issue that caused some Insiders to experience bugchecks with the error KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED in the previous build.
- Fixed a bug where certain devices could have a bug check (GSOD) when shutting down or switching from a Microsoft account to a local administrator account.
Problems that still persist
- Some users may see error 0x8024200d caused by incorrect express package download.
- PDF files opened in Microsoft Edge may not display correctly.
- Investigating the error that causes blue screens if the PC is configured for dual boot. The solution for now is to disable dual boot and they will notify you when there is a solution.
- Crash with dark mode hyperlink colors on sticky notes.
- Settings page will be locked after changing account password or PIN. They recommend using the CTRL + ALT + DEL method to change the password
- Due to a combination conflict, settings to enable/disable dynamic lock are missing from login settings.
If you belong to the Fast Ring within the Insider Program you can download it by going to the Settings Menu and search for Updates and security and then click on Check for updates."
