Only for the daring: they manage to install Windows 10 ARM on a Lumia 950 XL but... beware of the risks
Table of contents:
Although Microsoft's Lumia range of phones has passed on to a better life, many users still have one which continues to performing at a high level. Microsoft has set them aside, but that doesn't mean they don't have a great terminal that perhaps hasn't received all the support it deserves.
For some getting stuck on older versions of Windows Phone is not an option and in fact we have seen how Windows has been made to work 10 for ARM processors in a Lumia 950 XL.Ok, it's just a concept a proof, but what would you say if we told you that anyone can do it.
For expert users only
And before continuing, we use the term anyone to refer to users with knowledge of mods and specific tools, since the lack of them can cause major problems. Knowledge and audacity to take the necessary steps to install and run Windows 10 ARM on a Lumia 950. In fact, we are not responsible for what may happen if you carry them out.
The process allows you to install Build 17134 of Windows 10 ARM on a Lumia 950 XL and we warn you again, although there are some instructions to carry it out, it is not a procedure designed for inexperienced users. The steps are courtesy of Twitter user Ben Imbushuo, who has displayed them in list form:
- Get WPInternals 2.4](https://wpinternals.net/) to unlock bootmgrfw
- First boot: https://github.com/imbushuo/boot-shim
- Kickstarter: second link (msm8994-test-2)
- UEFI: Third link (Download Linaro and EDK2 tools)
It was Ben Imbushuo himself who created a repository on Github where explains all the necessary steps to carry out the process , which, as we already said, although feasible to achieve, is quite complicated.
Big risks that do not pay off
And it is that there are great risks of causing a _bricking_ of the terminal, something that is not advisable, much less if it is the telephone that we use regularly. Also, doing so loses mobile functionality and apparently the battery drains at an incredible rate.
It is above all a curiosity, an open door to what can be achieved with a terminal abandoned by Microsoft. Steps only recommended for expert users that we do not recommend doing under any circumstances unless you don't mind running out of mobile From Xataka Windows we are not responsible for what may happen if you follow the steps that Ben Imbushuo has described.
