Debuts Windows 10 Build 17686 with Redstone 5 flavor

With the arrival of Windows 10 April 2018 Update, activity has not ceased at the Redmond headquarters. They keep releasing new updates in the form of Builds, both for the current version of Windows that is in circulation and for the one that is coming.

We know it under the name of Redstone 5 and it can already be tested by users of the Insider Program. They have been able to access the latest build released a few hours ago, specifically it is Build 17686, which introduces the typical bug fixes along with a series news that should be known.

Announced on Twitter by Dona Sarkar, the new Build now adds an improved local experience thanks to the arrival of a new Region page that allows users to modify the default regional format settings.

Similarly and through the path Settings – Time and Language – Language, we can add a Windows display language with the Local Experience Packs link.These can be downloaded from the Microsoft Store and the objective is to improve the accessibility of Windows allowing the choice of the language that we want to use."

Another improvement refers to privacy, so important today. Thus, if access to some functions is disabled, such as the camera or microphone within the privacy settings, we will see a notification when trying to use them to change the parameters that are set.

A revamped dark mode is coming to Windows 10, especially now that it's so hot with the debut of macOS X with Mojabe from new display mode. At Microsoft, Insider Program users complained about a dark mode in which the tones were too black and now they have been chosen to lighten them slightly.

For the rest There aren't too many new developments. This is the list of improvements that we are going to face in this Build:

• It is no longer necessary to connect a physical monitor while running Mixed Reality
• Apps running on Windows Mixed Reality can now use the Camera Capture UI API to capture images of the mixed reality world using the system capture experience.
• Changed some settings in the Mixed Reality video capture experience to make it easier to stop videos from the Start menu.
• Fixed an issue that caused the previous build to frequently fail with the error CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED.
• Game DVR has been renamed to ?Captures?.
• Fixed an issue where Paint and WordPad settings and recent files were not migrated during upgrades.
• The File Explorer experience has been improved with the new dark theme.
• Fixed an issue in recent builds that caused the ?Replace or Skip Files? had some unexpected dark elements.
• Fixed an issue where the large Japanese IME mode indicator would appear in the center of the screen when displaying UAC, even if the mode indicator had been disabled in Settings.
• Fixed bug where taskbar flyouts had no shadow.
• "Fixed an inactivity issue when clicking the plus button in the Clock and Calendar dropdown menu on the taskbar."
• Fixed an issue in recent Builds that caused the Command Prompt cursor to appear invisible.
• Fixed a bug that caused reliability issues when switching to the Microsoft Pinyin IME in recent Builds.
• Fixed a bug where the Emoji Panel would not be dismissed if you clicked elsewhere on the screen.

There are, however, still known issues that you should be aware of before installing this Build:

• Dark themes may crash in File Explorer.
• After upgrading, the Mixed Reality portal will reinstall the necessary software and environment settings will not be preserved.
• "Reliability and performance issues may occur when starting the Startup function in this build."
• Fonts purchased from the Microsoft Store may not work in some applications.
• Taskbar flyouts no longer have an acrylic background.
• There is a failure with the drivers when running the HLK component / device driver tests. They are working on a solution.
• When installing any of the recent versions from the Fast ring and then moving to the Slow ring, optional content like enabling developer mode will fail.
• The top of some Win32 desktop application windows may appear slightly below the tab bar when created maximized.
• Closing a tab can sometimes cause the entire set to be minimized.
• Tile and cascading windows will not work with inactive tabs.
• The Office Visual Basic Editor window will tab in error.
• Opening an Office document while the same application has an existing document open may cause an inadvertent switch to the last active document.
• Local files or non-Microsoft cloud files will not be restored automatically and there will be no error prompt.
